Juvenile Gangs In Schools: Characteristics, Causes, And Possible Solutions, Gordon A. Crews

Criminal Justice Faculty Research

Special attention is given to the evolving nature of gangs in K-12 educational institutions (e.g., new types of juvenile groups developing and their associated behavior). Traditional subjects such as gang recruitment, initiation, and criminal activity are examined by discussing the many ways they manifest themselves in the school setting. Finally, a conceptual framework is presented by which a school can identify, understand, and begin to address a potential …

Top-Down, Routinized Reform In Low-Income, Rural Schools: Nsf's Appalachian Rural Systemic Initiative, Robert Bickel, Terry Tomasek, Teresa Hardman Eagle

Leadership Studies Faculty Research

Since 1991, the National Science Foundation has funded fifty-nine state, urban, and rural systemic initiatives. The purpose of the initiatives is to promote achievement in math, science, and technology among all students, and to encourage schools and communities to secure the resources needed to maintain such outcomes. The Appalachian Rural Systemic Initiative (ARSI) is a six-state consortium which focuses these efforts on low-income, rural schools. The primary means of accomplishing ARSI's aims is a one-day-one-school site visit, called a Program Improvement Review, done by an ARSI math or science expert. The centrally important Program Improvement Reviews, however, seem to be …

Influence Of Examiner Experience On Interrater Reliability Using The Kt2000 Knee Ligament Arthrometer, Michelle Ann Phelan

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

The KT-2000 knee ligament arthrometer is frequently used by clinicians in determining the integrity of the anterior cruciate ligament. Researchers have questioned the reliability in using this device in reporting reliable results. Thirteen subjects (age=22-45) were recruited on a voluntary basis for this study. The KT-2000 knee ligament arthrometer was used to measure anterior-posrtior laxity for each patient. Results were measured at 15 and 20 pounds of force for right and left knees. A multiple linear regression ANOVA was used …
