By drawing upon the tradition of situated and activity perspectives of adult learning, this mixed methods study underscores the sociocultural and politicized processes by which farmer/learners negotiate apprentice identity. Our findings offer implications for the formation of equitable apprenticeship learning experiences and career pathways.

This paper explores the work of Merlin Donald, Donald Mithen, Michael Tomasello and Tim Ingold to show how current thinking in anthropology challenges the cognitivist bias that currently dominates our field.

This research investigated the “learning ecology” of the virtual world, Second Life. Study goals were to: (a) determine how the design and social dynamics of one virtual world support as well as constrain various types of learning, and (b) suggest implications for the use of virtual worlds in adult education.
