This study explores the developmental diversity of incoming and graduating students regarding ego stage and intercultural sensitivity and how students develop in the context of their doctoral studies. It also examines the relationship and correlations between the two domains and how they each develop. In this paper, we report on the results in process in year two of this multi-year longitudinal study.

A Phenomenological Study Of The Educational Experiences Of Black Women: Learning As You Go, Eva Young, Mary Ziegler, Kathy Greenberg

This research study provided a descriptive picture of educational experiences of three sets of Black sisters who grew up in the inner-city. A qualitative existential-phenomenological research study design was used to derive common themes that represented the universal essence of the participants’ experiences. This study illuminated the formal and informal learning experiences of Black women and the profound role cultural experiences of family and community play in shaping their learning experiences through adulthood. Findings suggest that the educational experiences of Black women influenced their development, voice, self-esteem, and self-defined achievement and success. Using the Subject-Object Interview data was gathered to assess the meaning making framework underlying meaning construction by peer instructors in learning in retirement programs. Construction of the peer instructing experience was consistent with the potential depth and breadth of assessed meaning making capacity, but not the expectations of the role.
