Exploring A Paperless Business Administrative System (Bas) Implementation In A K-12 School, Marwan M. Issa
Exploring A Paperless Business Administrative System (Bas) Implementation In A K-12 School, Marwan M. Issa
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The primary purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate how a paperless BAS can affect the overall performance of a school’s administrative activities. The research included direct observation, survey questionnaires, document review, and both structured and unstructured interviews.
The selected school, a K-12 charter school, was an ideal candidate for this study as it allowed unrestricted access. The effects of the move to a paperless BAS were overwhelmingly positive. These effects included enabling employees to complete their resource requests more speedily and accurately. The implementation also incorporated “smart” forms that did not allow users to submit incomplete forms. Employees …

Looking For Verbal Communication In The Non-Verbal World: A Case Study Of The Picture Exchange Communication System, Jason Blauet
Looking For Verbal Communication In The Non-Verbal World: A Case Study Of The Picture Exchange Communication System, Jason Blauet
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
In this study, a three year-old boy with autism named Alex’s communication needs were evaluated and then his current communication program was compared to other communication programs. The programs must have included an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for use with children in Alex’s cognitive state and chronological age, a final goal of verbal communication, and were tested on children in the autism spectrum. Alex had been taught using the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), so PECS was chosen to be analyzed for this review for its efficacy with children similar to Alex. Once Alex completed the program, he again …
An Examination Of The Relationship Between The Generation A Teacher Is Born Into, Teaching Style, And High School Student Engagement, Catherine L. Meyer-Looze
An Examination Of The Relationship Between The Generation A Teacher Is Born Into, Teaching Style, And High School Student Engagement, Catherine L. Meyer-Looze
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Educators across America are attempting to prepare students for a world of rapid change, including globalization and the move from industrialization to the Age of Information (Marx, 2006). Dynamics of change include teachers, who encompass a wide range of generations and experiences (Marx, 2006). Each generation includes a set of value and belief systems (Oblinger, 2003). Each generation has been engaged in their learning experiences in differing ways.
The primary purposes of this study were to determine if there were relationships between teacher generation and teaching style, teacher generation and student engagement, and teaching style and student engagement. A survey …
The Motivating Factors Of Secondary School Assistant Principals In Southeast Michigan And Their Impact On Job Mobility, David M. Schmittou
The Motivating Factors Of Secondary School Assistant Principals In Southeast Michigan And Their Impact On Job Mobility, David M. Schmittou
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Recent research identified two broad categories of motivation, extrinsic and intrinsic. These two forms of personal motivation play a large role in determining individuals‟ level of job satisfaction. By affording a level of perceived empowerment, the environment of the workplace is a contributing factor toward encouraging or discouraging individual satisfaction.
This study demonstrates the relationships that exist between personal motivation needs, workplace empowerment, and the attempted job mobility or stability of assistant principals, a select group of public school administrators.
Prior studies have argued that when an individual possesses both high levels of personal intrinsic motivation needs and high levels …

An Examination Of The Relationship Between School Climate And Student Growth In Select Michigan Charter Schools, Benjamin P. Jankens
An Examination Of The Relationship Between School Climate And Student Growth In Select Michigan Charter Schools, Benjamin P. Jankens
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to determine what relationship exists between school climate and student growth in Michigan charter schools. Data were collected through the use of a school climate survey and standardized assessment results. The Organizational Climate Descriptive Questionnaire for Elementary Schools (OCDQ-RE) developed by Hoy, Tarter, and Kottkamp (1991) was used to assess teacher perceptions of school climate. Student growth data were calculated using the fall and spring reading and math results from the Performance Series test by Scantron, and the MAP test by NWEA.
The population of this study consisted of 355 teachers from 11 participating …
Examination Of Factors Contributing To The Achievement Gap Of Native American Students In Select School Districts In Michigan, Thomas R. Harwood
Examination Of Factors Contributing To The Achievement Gap Of Native American Students In Select School Districts In Michigan, Thomas R. Harwood
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Most of the studies on student achievement gaps involve the Black-White achievement gap due to the availability of significant sample populations in order to draw scientific conclusions from the analysis of the student achievement data. However, there are few empirical quantitative studies that analyze a similar gap in achievement between the Native American student and their White cohort. Such studies have been limited due to a small and isolated Native American population in regions across the nation. In Michigan, less than 1% of the student population in the schools is Native American. This study identified 20 select school districts (both …
The Socialization Of African American Women As Faculty Members In Religiously-Affiliated Universities, Sheryl L. Mcgriff
The Socialization Of African American Women As Faculty Members In Religiously-Affiliated Universities, Sheryl L. Mcgriff
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Research on experiences of faculty-of-color generally, and on African American women particularly, in religiously-affiliated universities is embryonic. Studying faith-based colleges as a synonymous group is a complex process because of different institutional types (e.g., 2-year, 4-year, and seminary); divergent missions; church affiliations (e.g., Lutheran, Baptist, and Roman Catholic) and Carnegie classifications (Smith & Jackson, 2004). This study’s purpose was to understand how African American women interpret and respond to their formal/informal socialization as faculty members in Jesuit universities. Jesuits have a distinct heritage that influences their institutional mission (Tierney, 1997). Perpetuation of religious tenets and ideals is a primary focus …
Emancipatory Education And Democratic Politics: An Analysis Of The Sociological Imagination In A First Grade Classroom, Ellen Lin
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
This autoethnographic research follows my personal and professional experiences as an elementary teacher reflecting upon the travails and joys that come with journeying toward a more liberating pedagogy and democratic experience along with first grade students. Braced with Freire’s 1970 summoning to resist dehumanization in society and education, I have pursued with disappointment existing democratic and humanizing trails in schools. Excited to exit one district and move to another known as “exceptional” in the region, I found myself even more limited by a tightly controlled system. Unwilling to give up hope, I began in my second year to infuse more …
The Lived Worlds And Life Experiences Of Residents In University Linked Retirement Communities: A Qualitative Approach, Ramona B. Meraz Lewis
The Lived Worlds And Life Experiences Of Residents In University Linked Retirement Communities: A Qualitative Approach, Ramona B. Meraz Lewis
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation explores the important role that University-Linked Retirement Communities (ULRC) can play in helping older adults negotiate retirement transitions and develop post-retirement identities. Utilizing life course theory as the theoretical framework, the dissertation explores residents‘ attraction to and experiences in ULRCs. One of the innovative ways that learning in retirement is being addressed is through the practice of ULRCs. ULRCs are designed and built for retirees who want to enjoy living near or on a college campus, offering a retirement living experience focused on the scholarly and the social; the concept is one to meet the needs of both …
