This thesis is a position paper developing an argument for the advancement of the play Thunder Rock, by Robert Ardrey, into consideration for the California Reading List for Public High Schools. To support the validity of the argument the thesis explores three key elements: the content of the play itself; connections to the California Content Standards for California Public Schools; as well as related instructional methods appropriate to the task of teaching the play. This thesis project is a study of the process and development of a Career Development Creative Drama unit for first grade students which any teacher can reapply in their own classroom. The goal of this project was to create and polish a program which teachers may use in the classroom to benefit their students. This study examines the use of aesthetics in the art education curriculum as a strategy for building oral language skills and critical thinking skills. In this study reproduced artworks were used to stimulate discussion; students learned to scan paintings using a technique called aesthetic scanning during which they learn how to look at a painting orally through guided questioning by the classroom teacher. It was concluded that providing oral language opportunities through the implementation of the aesthetic scanning program was an effective way to promote oral language skills and critical thinking skills in the kindergarten classroom. Socioeconomic status (SES) influences many aspects of a person's life, and stereotypes concerning level of SES and the domain of creativity exist. The artist scholars: E pluribus unum is an exploratory curriculum designed to be implemented into middle schools. Adolescents experience a period of chaotic and emotional changes that can be both confusing and challanging. This cummiculum seeks to give adolescents a means of expressing themselves. By introducing students to performing arts, the literary arts, and the visual arts, adolescents will begin to answer the basic questions of being human: who are we? Where do we come from? How is knowledge constructed, used, and valued? Each unit consists of lesson plans intended to introduce students to the basic elements of the arts.
