Exploring School Counselor-Principal Collaboration, Self-Efficacy, And School Climate: A Comprehensive Review Of Literature, Rachel Louise Geesa, Derien D. Kunce, Audrey N. Enyeart

Mid-Western Educational Researcher

School counselors and principals have many shared responsibilities within PK-12 schools to better meet students’ social/emotional, academic, and career and college readiness needs. School counselor-principal collaboration can promote the success of PK-12 students, staff, and the overall school environment. Within the area of school counselor-principal collaboration, more research is needed regarding the implementation of collaboration methods between the two professions at pre-service levels. Due to this need, we conducted an extensive literature review to examine the developments and outcomes of school counselor-principal collaboration. Based on the review of 33 articles, the following themes emerged within the literature. These themes focus …

Help Or Hype? Assessing Digital Literature Review Tools For Graduate Students, Jessica Hagman, Nikki Tummon, Catherine Bowers

Transforming Libraries for Graduate Students

A core role for academic librarians is to support early career researchers as they develop an increasingly focused understanding of the literature in their discipline and research area in order to contribute to the development of new knowledge. Graduate students use their knowledge of the literature to develop research questions and argue for the value of their work to the broader community of scholars.

This task is both intellectually and technically challenging. A dissertation or thesis requires that students demonstrate knowledge of their field as well as cite perhaps hundreds of sources. This process has long been supported by tools …

The Closing Of One Black Box, The Opening Of Another: A Self-Study Of How An Instructional Coach Makes Decisions, Andromeda L. Hightower May 2023

The Closing Of One Black Box, The Opening Of Another: A Self-Study Of How An Instructional Coach Makes Decisions, Andromeda L. Hightower

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Despite the efforts of traditional and alternative teacher education programs (i.e. pre-service teacher education) in the United States, teachers frequently report feeling unprepared by the time they begin teaching full time in the classroom. Teachers with low levels of self-efficacy are correlated with lower job satisfaction, higher levels of stress and anxiety, and lower student achievement gains in the classroom. To assist with ameliorating these gaps, schools, districts, and private distributors provide training opportunities for teachers once they have begun the job (i.e. in-service teacher training) in the form of teacher professional development. Mainstream professional development approaches are traditionally simplistic …

Management Of Teachers-Parents Relationship To Improve Teacher Subjective Well-Being: A Literature Review, Yunita Sri Handayani

Psychological Research on Urban Society

The relationship between teachers and parents plays an important role not only in determining the success of student learning at school but also in influencing the subjective well-being of teachers. However, the ideal teacher-parent relationship is not always possible. Often there are conflicts between parents and teachers that make student learning outcomes at school not optimal. A poor relationship between teachers and parents will also reduce the subjective well-being of teachers. This paper will analyze the management of good teacher-parent relationship to improve the subjective well-being of teachers. This study uses a literature review method from 14 research journal articles …

Sense Of Belonging As Behaviorist Construct: “Doing Belonging” And Its Application For College Students With Disabilities, Chris Parthemos Phd Jan 2023

Sense Of Belonging As Behaviorist Construct: “Doing Belonging” And Its Application For College Students With Disabilities, Chris Parthemos Phd

Theses and Dissertations

Sense of Belonging has been widely linked to academic performance, retention and persistence for college students. Students with disabilities are less likely to enroll than peers, and are more likely to drop out. Similar to other historically-marginalized groups, these students report lower sense of belonging than peers. Research with this population suggests that they may be seeking ways of building community and belonging at their universities which are self-driven. This notion of “doing belonging”, as it is described in the sociological literature, appears at first glance to be compatible with behaviorist approaches to student support. Although not without controversy, behavior …

This review is in response to numerous research, studies and other reviews that present the under-addressed, longstanding need to rethink vocational education and training delivered to secondary students (VETdSS) in Australia and in similar jurisdictions. Further, it is unclear how secondary schools in Western Australia are navigating the provision of vocational education and training within contemporary political socio-economic conditions. Therefore, this paper intends to review the most recent research about VETdSS and especially research that is pertinent to secondary schools in Western Australia. Ultimately, our aim in this paper is to develop a conceptual framework that will help us to …

Validity Evidence Based On Content: Controversies And Quantification, Agung Santoso, Alice Whita Savira, Robertus Landung Eko Prihatmoko

International Conference on Assessment and Learning (ICAL)

Validity is a crucial issue in test development because it represents the accuracy of test score interpretation in describing the measured attribute or construct. Among validity evidence that can be collected to support test score interpretation, the one based on test content incited controversies. The content-based validity evidence includes analyses of the relationship between test content and the construct the test purported to measure. Some authors opposed the use of such evidence in the validation process, arguing that the evidence can only provide hypotheses to be tested in the subsequent processes. Other authors argued that the content validation process provided …

The Relationship Between Physical Activity And Academic Performance Of Students, Haizhi Dai, Shuisheng Xu Aug 2022

The Relationship Between Physical Activity And Academic Performance Of Students, Haizhi Dai, Shuisheng Xu

International Journal of Physical Activity and Health

In China, many teachers and parents concern that physical activities take too much time of students, which would negatively influence students’ academic performance and the inescapable pressure of schools to produce students who meet academic standards. However, decreased physical activity participation due to the scarcity of exercises becomes prevalent in Chinese students. The correlation between students’ physical activity participation and academic achievement has raised increased attention. This study explored the relationship between students’ physical activity participation and academic performance from the perspective of humanities and sociology to explore a way to balance the two aspects for students. We conducted literature …

Sexual Activity Between Victims And Perpetrators Following A Sexual Assault: A Systematic Literature Review And Critical Feminist Analysis, Katie M. Edwards, Christina M. Dardis

Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families, and Schools: Faculty Publications

Rarely are perpetrators found guilty of sexual assault when the victim engaged in sex with the perpetrator following the sexual assault. Although the recent trial of Harvey Weinstein is an exception, the fact that his accusers engaged in consensual sex with him following the alleged assaults ignited debate that garnered international attention. The purpose of this paper was to conduct a systematic review to (1) document the extent to which victims engage in sex with the perpetrator following a sexual assault and (2) examine theoretical explanations for this phenomenon. Five peer-reviewed journal articles published between 1988 and 2016 were identified. …

Where I’M From: Internal Manifestations Among Cambodian Women Using The Expressive Arts A Literature Review, Noeun Chhim

Expressive Therapies Capstone Theses

Chronic mental illness has affected many Cambodian people, but, culturally, Cambodians aren’t accustomed to opening up and discussing their feelings, rather defining mental illness to craziness and seeking help is presumed taboo. Thus, Cambodians are often reluctant to talk about their experiences and/or their related illnesses. Though Cambodians have experienced inconceivable suffering and violence during the Khmer Rouge era, for the purpose of this thesis, I will be discussing the role of Cambodian women and investigate the extent of what they’ve witnessed and experienced. Cambodian women have suffered through many years of trauma and grief, during and after the Khmer …

Technology Storylines: A Narrative Analysis Of The Rural Education Research, Eizabeth S. Wargo, Jeff Simmons

The Rural Educator

This piece offers a systematic review of rural (P-12) education technology literature. Drawing upon a social change frame (Ogburn, 1922), current rural education technology research within the subfield is collected, examined, and synthesized. Findings explicate that methodological diversity is a strength; however, some populations (e.g., middle school teachers) have thicker coverage than others (e.g., high school students). Additionally, many studies lean on rhetorical structures about what could and should be happening in rural schools, rarely delving into the how’s and whys associated with actual technology use in rural contexts. The piece concludes with a call for scholarship which assists in …
