Teaching 6-7 Year Old Children The Importance Of Being Kind, Jazmin Mendez May 2024

Teaching 6-7 Year Old Children The Importance Of Being Kind, Jazmin Mendez

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Kindness is an ongoing issue seen in elementary schools. Children ages 6 to 7 years old have a hard time displaying their kindness to their peers. My paper focuses on teaching children ages 6 to 7 years old how to be kind to one another. The children are also shown examples of what it looks like to be kind vs. unkind. The overall purpose, is for the children to learn the benefits of being kind, what are kind vs unkind words, and what are kind vs unkind actions/behaviors.

Radically Inclusive Pedagogy And Praxis, Danie Jules Hallerman Aug 2022

Radically Inclusive Pedagogy And Praxis, Danie Jules Hallerman

English Theses & Dissertations

Although the current definition exists at the intersection of critical pedagogy, disability studies, critical race theory, critical embodiment pedagogy, feminism, cultural rhetoric, expressivism, and queer theory, as it stands now, radical inclusive pedagogy has few, if any, identifiable, distinctive qualities of its own. The pedagogies and theories from which radically inclusive pedagogy draws from speak to the mind, the body, and the spirit separately, or will focus on two aspects while neglecting the third. As I envision it for the classroom practice I have designed and would like others to adopt, radically inclusive pedagogy addresses the mind (embracing students’ knowledge, …

Building Classroom Culture And Community With An Emphasis On Inclusive Practices, Adrienne Ducato

This study involved eighteen kindergarteners and six adult participants, including five educators and one counseling psychologist, and utilized a qualitative research design with a constructivist worldview to elicit from students how they understand and relate to empathy and inclusion. Students participated …

(Re)Developing Habits Of Gratitude And Kindness In An Elementary Classroom Post-Pandemic, Michaela Callahan

Increasing Social Awareness Skills In Kindergarten Students, Chloe Dennis May 2022

Increasing Social Awareness Skills In Kindergarten Students, Chloe Dennis

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

Social awareness is a key component of social-emotional learning and is often underrepresented in kindergarten curriculum. Students who struggle with social awareness are at a greater risk for antisocial behaviors, low academic performance, diminished self-efficacy, low motivation, and low adaptability. Jean Piagets’ cognitive-developmental theory places kindergarten-age students in the preoperational stage of development. At this stage, children are egocentric, exhibit centrated thought, and struggle to use perspective and empathic skills. Kindness, problem-solving, and maintaining positive relationships are all rooted in social awareness and require students to move away from egocentric thinking. I designed a three-part lesson on acts of kindness …

“Devonu Lug’Otit Turk” As A Great Source Of Views On Folk Pedagogy, Bakhodir Kuchkarov

Mental Enlightenment Scientific-Methodological Journal

There is no nation in the world that has not created masterpieces of wisdom and has not kept them in its heart and language for centuries. The great thinker and encyclopedist Mahmud Kashgari traveled to the country to study the life, customs, language and art of the Turkic peoples, especially the various tribes and clans, in order to write “Devoni lug`otit turk’’. In “Devoni lug`otit turk’’ there are about three hundred poems, folk proverbs, wise sayings, which the author used as an exhibition in interpreting the lexical meaning of words. The spiritual legacy of Mahmud Kashgari is the upbringing he …

Increasing Kindness Among Kindergartners, Jenique Ruiz Dec 2020

Increasing Kindness Among Kindergartners, Jenique Ruiz

Capstone Projects and Master's Theses

In most elementary school curriculum, prosocial skills, such as the concept of kindness, are absent. When young children have underdeveloped prosocial skills, social relationships and academic achievement may suffer. Children need these skills to successfully interact with their peers and to achieve academic goals. To address the lack of prosocial skills in the curriculum, I have created a three-part lesson about kindness for Kindergarten students at George C. Marshall Elementary School in Seaside, California.

The Power Of Kindness And Positivity In The College Environment, Kayla M. Vasilko, Joseph T. Stewart

Purdue Journal of Service-Learning and International Engagement

Research has shown that positivity in school climates has a direct connection to academic success. Building high self-esteem and recognizing the value of kindness in terms of emotional learning are key factors for schools to prioritize when aiming to help students succeed (Gadermann & Reichil, 2016). Additionally, it has been shown that kindness and positivity naturally trigger upward spirals of improvement, and have been noted to promote better social interactions, relationships, and health. Positive emotions, such as happiness, also broaden thought-action repertoires, which in turn builds intellectual, physical, social, and psychological factors in all of us (Otake, 2006; Bhujade, 2017). …

Numerous studies have shown that yoga can be very beneficial for kids. Cats and Cows Yoga Club will help children learn the postures of yoga, but also teach them the importance of mindfulness. I include lessons that preach kindness and gratefulness which compliments the practice of yoga very well. Ultimately, children will become aware of how it feels when they deep breathe and the difference it makes in your mood when you focus on mindfulness in your body, mind, and spirit.

Character Education Using Literature And Discussions, Molly A. Leifeld

Masters of Arts in Education Action Research Papers

Laminack and Wadsworth (2012) “believe the single most important thing we can teach our children is kindness” (p. 1). I hoped to teach kindness characteristics to students in my first, second and third-grade classroom, as well as, lessen students’ frequency of unkind behaviors. I utilized Laminack and Wadsworths’ (2012) curriculum Bullying Hurts: Teaching Kindness through Read Alouds and Guided Conversations as my action research focus. Throughout my study, I used a tally chart and observation journal to track the frequency and types of behaviors students demonstrated. Also, students completed a behavioral self-assessment before and after implementation to assess their opinions …

Special Report On Teaching Children To Be Kind

Special Reports

While recognizing the need to continue alleviating suffering wherever it exists, The Humane Society has taken the offensive to teach children and youth the appropriateness and value of kindness and respect for all living creatures. HSUS's experience has demonstrated that attitudes of adults are extremely difficult to change. It is the children and youth of the nation that offer the greatest potential for having positive, unprejudiced attitudes. And it is here that HSUS has chosen to direct a large part of its efforts and resources.
