Immigration has been part of American history, through time increasing the diversity in population. The U.S. Department of Education reported that newly arrived immigrant students are welcomed to classrooms in public schools, and recent data revealed that more than 840,000 immigrant students occupy American classrooms. Immigrant students may demonstrate high aspirations and hope for a good public education however, some experiences bring about isolation, anxiety, and oppression, demonstrating a critical need for a caring and equitable environment. Course evaluations impact faculty’ annual evaluations and have become somewhat controversial, yet course evaluations in faculty evaluations persist as a common practice across universities. Effects Of Hands-On Experiences On Student Achievement, Interest, And Attitude In Chemistry, Donna Gretchenn Adkins

This study examined the effect of hands-on experiences on student achievement, interest, and attitude in chemistry. The researcher gathered data from 82 students enrolled in an East Texas high school chemistry course for the 2019-2020 school year. Historical data from five-unit tests were used to assess differences in mean achievement scores between test items aligned with hands-on laboratory experiences and test items aligned with computer-simulated experiences. An independent t-test and a paired t-test were used to statistically evaluate the data. The independent t-test showed no statistically significant difference. The purpose of this ex post facto study was to determine if gender differences exist in the top quartile of mathematics achievement in Texas as measured by STAAR. Performance data for 6,358,500 Texas students on the mathematics STAAR in grades 3-6 for the years 2016-2019 were examined in this quantitative study. The percentage of male and female students scoring in three different score bands, the 75th-89th percentile, the 90th-95th percentile, and the 95th-100th percentile, were presented. This study was designed to investigate if a statistical variance exists between traditional and A/B block school scheduling, and the effect on economically disadvantaged student achievement on the English I and Algebra I End-of-Course STAAR state-mandated exam, from 2015-2018. In response to studies illuminating the achievement gap, educational leaders in Texas implemented block scheduling in order to improve student outcomes among high school students. School- and community-based after-school programs have evolved within the last 10 to 14 years, to accommodate and reinforce primary education (Mahoney, Larson, Eccles, & Lord, 2005). Students who are enrolled in after-school programs (e.g., Boys and Girls Club, Solid Foundation) have made higher grades in the classroom than their same age/grade peers who are not enrolled in after-school programs (Fredricks, Hackett, & Bregman, 2010). Additionally, after-school programs increase students’ self-esteem and confidence (Fredricks et al., 2010).
