Identities And Motives Of Naturalist Development Program Attendees And Their Relation To Professional Careers, Jennifer A. Mraz
Identities And Motives Of Naturalist Development Program Attendees And Their Relation To Professional Careers, Jennifer A. Mraz
Dissertations
In recent years, there has been much concern over the decline of biologists who actually identify themselves to be naturalists, which negatively impacts the field of conservation and the study of biology as a whole. This could result in a decrease in individuals who participate in naturalist-like activities, such as informal environmental education and environmental volunteerism. The purpose of my study was to determine what discourse identities were held by naturalist development program participants, how these discourse identities related to their volunteer motives in environmental settings, and how discourse identity related to professional careers. I defined identity through the lens …

Career Ready Or Rushed? Developing Career Exploration In Cscps, Catherine Hammond, Richard E. Cleveland
Department of Leadership, Technology, and Human Development Faculty Presentations
While national focus on college/career-readiness has placed welcome attention on school counseling, overzealous emphases to pick a specific college and/or career can leave students feeling rushed. Broad school-wide or grade-level programs aimed at college/career preparation may trump individual career development. This session presents how to infuse career exploration into the current educational landscape (i.e., RTI, Common Core, etc.) via the multiple components of a Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program (CGCP): Foundation, Management, Delivery, and Accountability.

This report was commissioned by the Australian Government Department of Education (formerly the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations). It was designed to analyse the characteristics and profiles of the teachers teaching in selected learning (or curriculum) areas in primary and secondary schools. The intent was to use the data collected through the Staff in Australia’s Schools 2013 (SiAS) project to provide a more detailed analysis of the teachers concerned than was provided in the main survey report (McKenzie et al., 2014 ) . The SiAS project was designed to provide a detailed picture of the Australian teacher workforce, …

School Counselors' Provision Of Career And College Transition Services To Students In Special Education, Pamela K. Lee
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
School counselors provide career and college guidance services to secondary students to prepare them for transition to post-secondary education and employment. Successful post-secondary transition is a desired outcome for students in special education. This project surveyed 96 currently practicing secondary school counselors from two Northern Utah school districts. A survey questionnaire using rating scale items and open-ended questions was administered to assess the degree to which school counselors provide specific career and college guidance services to students in special education, counselors rating of preparedness to provide such services, counselor beliefs about providing these services, and what factors negatively or positively …

University Athlete Transition: Making The Jump From Sport To Life, Natascha Wesch
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
The general purpose of this dissertation was to examine how perfectionism might influence career planning through its relationship with career decision making self-efficacy, career goal setting, and career outcome expectations in Canadian university student-athletes. Specifically, this dissertation addressed two main research questions: Does perfectionism enhance or inhibit career planning in university student-athletes; and is this in turn influenced by the relationship between perfectionism (strivings and concerns) and the social cognitive variables of the SCCT (i.e., career decision making self-efficacy, career goal setting, and career outcome expectations)?
In order to validate and test the measurement models of perfectionism, decision-making self-efficacy, career …

Increasing Student Interest In Poultry Science Careers Through 4-H, Peggy Lynn Armstrong
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The demand for poultry science graduates to fill available positions in the poultry industry continues to increase. At the same time, there are not enough graduates to fill the positions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the implementation of the poultry curriculum in the 4-H program and student recruitment through the 4-H program into the Poultry Science Department. The targeted populations were 4-H leaders who implement the poultry curriculum and university students who were currently studying poultry. Career development theories suggest that previous experiences during adolescence can be a major influence in future vocation choice. A mixed methods …

Secondary Principals Who Are Mothers: Balancing Home And Career, Turina Parker
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Working mothers who are school leaders face challenges as they attempt to manage competing time demands and personal and professional responsibilities. A need exists for existing school leaders, as well as women aspiring to school leadership, to understand the coping strategies used by mothers who are also school principals. To that end, the purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine the experiences of mothers who are school principals. Strategies used to navigate multiple roles were examined through a role conflict lens. Three overarching research questions guided this study to focus on how female principals with children accommodate their dual …
