Wanda Grant is a retired School Nutrition Director with over 35 years of experience. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Food, Nutrition and Institutional Management from Washington State University and is a registered dietitian. Her career took her from Washington to Alaska and finally to California. She is a credentialed School Nutrition Specialist with the School Nutrition Association (SNA), has served on the Executive Board of SNA, and was honored nationally in 2009 as Outstanding Director of the Year. Wanda is a certified ServSafe® instructor and a consultant trainer for the National Food Service Management Institute.

This handbook will discuss how school syllabus, Other Learning Experiences (OLE) and Elder Academy (EA) can be integrated. It will provide some structures for schools as a reference and help develop a comprehensive learning plan. Besides, the handbook will mention different roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, as well as the suggestions and guidelines for assessment.

The programs and activities in the “Elder Academy at Lingnan” will be taken as examples to demonstrate the guidelines. This can provide a better understanding of the operation mode of the integration between school curricula, OLE and EA. Hence, interested stakeholders can perform their own …

After a number of years in retail food service, Jennifer Jennings saw an ad for a food service director position in her native Wisconsin and applied. Surprised that she got the job, she knew she had a lot to learn about school food service and took advantage of all the classes available through her Department of Public Instruction, as well as becoming involved with the School Nutrition Association of Wisconsin. She has now been a director for six years.

Ever since the launching of the Elder Academy in 2007, numerous schools have joined the fray bringing with them valuable innovations, presenting the elderly and students with a wide variety of educational activities. The experiences of the Elder Academy at Lingnan and other academies are summarized in this handbook, in order to provide a frame of reference and an operation guide for other schools and organizations, so that they may design their own comprehensive teaching and learning plans.

Preliminary results of the National Online Faculty Survey (N = 236) are reported. Data from 99 individuals (41.9% of the sample) who reported conducting research in the past 2 years (not own dissertation or thesis) are explored. 45% reported doing their research online. Characteristics of the researchers and studies are discussed.

This article presents highlights of professional development efforts for teachers in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classrooms occurring throughout the state and through a collaborative effort by researchers from the Center for Equity for English Learners (CEEL) at Loyola Marymount University. The article begins by identifying the various statewide efforts for professional development for TK teachers, followed by a brief review of the literature on early literacy development for diverse learners.
