Coaching Efficacy With Academic Leaders: A Phenomenological Investigation, Deanna Lee Vansickel-Peterson

The purpose of this psychological phenomenological research was to understand the efficacy of life coaching from the perspective of academic leaders. To date, not one investigation or attempt has been made towards the above stated purpose. This study includes a theoretical overview and a review of the coaching literature from Socrates (469-399 BC) to current day Humanistic theory presented in part by Roger (1902-1987).

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of self-efficacy for Enlisting Social Resources, Self-Regulatory Efficacy, self-efficacy for Self-Regulated Learning, and self-efficacy for Academic Achievement (Bandura's Children's Self-Efficacy Scale, 2006) of urban public school students to performance on the high stakes Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) math test. A survey questionnaire was administered to eighty three participants and the data, analyzed using linear regression, conformed to the assumptions of Independence, Linearity, Normality, and Homoscedasticity. Self-Regulatory Efficacy, Academic Achievement, and Socio-economic Status were statistically significant bivariate predictors of performance on MCAS math test. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a career, academic, personal, and social high school transition program option on 9th-grade students' achievement, behavior, and engagement. Students in the career, academic, personal, and social group ( n = 30) and the comparison academic/elective course option programs group (n = 30) maintained average to above average achievement test scores and course grades, appropriately low levels of absence and tardy frequencies, and athletic, co-curricular, and extra-curricular school engagement participation suggesting school success during 9th-grade. The Pipeline Project addresses three questions concerning the relationship between the classroom behaviour of students and their academic performance. First, to what extent does classroom behaviour explain why students fall behind and fail to meet acceptable standards in literacy and numeracy; second, if student classroom behaviour does influence academic performance, what forms of classroom behaviour are of most significance; and third, are the students whose behaviour has contributed to their underperformance in literacy and numeracy likely to ever catch up?
