Analysis Of Teacher Evaluation Instruments In Use In Tennessee Public School Systems, Jane L. Williams

The purpose of this study was to analyze teacher evaluation instruments in use in Tennessee public school systems relative to type of instrument and content in relation to six school system characteristics. Differences were sought between school systems in relation to participation in teacher contract negotiations, per pupil expenditure, average annual teacher salary, method of selection of superintendents, type of school system, and size of school system in their choice of type of instrument and in the content of their instruments. The purpose of this study was to determine the status of general education and occupational program articulation efforts and practices as they existed between community colleges and the public secondary and vocational schools in Virginia. The problem was to also determine if a positive climate existed which was necessary for the planning of articulated programs between the secondary, vocational, and community college systems. The climate was determined by the perceptions reported by administrators toward articulation activities. The problem was to determine whether a significant relationship existed among the present positions, career goals, and results of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator using selected college and university personnel administrators in the Southern Region of the College and University Personnel Association (CUPA). Literature was reviewed in order to determine the previous research of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as it applies to college and university personnel administrators. The standard Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was chosen as the personality inventory instrument. The Nationalization Of Arabic And Islamic Education In Egypt: Dar Al Alum And Al Azhar, Lois A. Aroian

This study sets forth for the first time the vital role of Dar Al'ulum, Egypt's first and only continuously operating university level teaching training institution, in the nationalization of Islamic and Arabic education in Egypt. Ali Mubarak, nineteenth century Egypt's longest enduring bureaucrat, initiated , and Khedive Ismail (1863-1879) founded Dar al Ulum in 1892 to train teachers of Arabic and Turkish for the newly expanding national (amiriyya) school system. This study grew out of a PhD dissertation, "Education, Language and Culture in Modern Egypt: Dar Al Ulum and its Graduates (1872-1923)" presented at The University of Michigin in 1978.

The purpose of this project was to provide teachers of fifth- and sixth-grade special education students with: 1. A career awareness unit on the fast food drive-in industry which includes specific lessons in the curriculum areas of reading, math, language arts, communication skills, health/science, social studies, and art. 2. A pre-postevaluation tool for measuring student's knowledge gained from the unit, student's self-concept, and student's attitude toward school.

Problem. The problem of this study was to determine the importance of competencies within critical administrative task areas as perceived by selected elementary school principals. Methods. Participants for the study were randomly selected from a total population of 429 elementary principals serving schools containing kindergarten through grade six in the state of North Carolina. A questionnaire was mailed to the 250 principals selected to participate in the study. Of the returned instruments 187 were complete and used for statistical analyses, with the data being analyzed using the SPSS Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Fourteen null hypotheses were formulated and …

A Syllabus For First Grade Teachers: Introducing Reading As A Functional Skill Through Food-Related Activities And Food Preparation, Tonia Carlene Mckenzie

The purpose of the project was two-fold. First, it was developed to teach first grade children the importance of learning to read as a functional necessity. The second purpose was to develop methods of doing this while simultaneously reinforcing several beginning reading and comprehension skills in a motivational way. Both purposes are addressed in a syllabus for first grade teachers that outlines how to use food-related experiences to supplement a beginning reading program.

A vocabulary enrichment supplement to social studies for use at the sixth grade was developed. The guide included thirty-two vocabulary activities of various strategies to further enhance the social studies program. The activities developed use strategies from context clues, cloze, categorization, conceptual development, dictionary, thesaurus, vocabulary cards, and review. Student involvement was emphasized throughout the guide.

In an effort to provide the remedial spelling student with visual-tactile-kinesthetic input, a model of spelling instruction which uses calligraphic equipment and skills was devised. Results from a pretest-posttest control group design revealed supportive evidence for the model.

An Analysis Of Student Evaluation Of Selected Post Secondary Faculty Based On Student Perceptions Of The Utilization Of The Evaluation, Ann N. James

The purpose of this study was to determine whether students' evaluation of faculty was affected by their perception of the utilization of the evaluation results. Three other variables were also investigated: faculty status, subject area of the class, and sex of the instructor. Data for this study were collected from twenty classes taught by ten instructors at a private post-secondary institution in East Tennessee. Both instructors and their classes were randomly selected. The total number of students surveyed was 303. Two classes for each of the ten instructors were administered the evaluation instrument by the investigator. The control group was …

The purpose of the study was to (1) compare the performance on left and right hemisphere processing tasks of male and female kindergarten students from three instructional approaches, and (2) to determine the effectiveness of an educational application: the use of "hands-on" inquiry-oriented science activities designed to engage the right hemisphere in improving left and right hemisphere processing. Subjects included 79 students enrolled in intact kindergarten classes representative of three instructional approaches: (1) the Traditional-Conventional Instructional Approach, (2) the Montessori Approach, and (3) the Open Activity-Centered Instructional Approach.
