This paper presents a classification schedule which may be utilized to organize the printed materials found in a curriculum laboratory. The schedule is designed to provide the user with maximum ease of access to the materials contained in the collection and relieves the curriculum librarian of many of the clerical routines common to the processing of new materials. The summary ir.cludcs general recommendations for the application of the schedule and suggestions relating to the organization and administration of the entire collection of printed curriculum materials.

Relatively speaking, few studies have concerned themselves with the problem of frequent testing, and as Keys pointed out, empirical evidence, uncomplicated by differences in the amount of testing material employed, on the effects of frequent testing is, at best, scarce (14:427). Also many studies used tests and test results for direct instruction, thus introducing additional variables. Furthermore, the choice of subjects and disciplines has been limited, the better part being taken from college psychology and sociology classes or high school science classes. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical and chemical effects of the Cle Elum Reservoir on the Cle Elum River and to evaluate these effects in respect to the Ephemeroptera of the Cle Elum River. Specific objectives were: (1) To determine the effects of the reservoir on current velocity, volume of flow, turbidity, and temperature. (2) To determine the effects of the reservoir on alkalinity, hardness, dissolved oxygen, and pH. (3) To evaluate the effects of the reservoir on the Ephemeroptera of the Cle Elum River.

Relationship Of Convergent And Divergent Teaching To Creative Performance, Robert Bruce Kibler

This study investigated the effect on test scores on the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking. Form A, resulting from convergent and divergent methods of teaching fifteen half-hour mini-lessons in social studies to fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. Results favored the Divergent Group, and their scores were more widely dispersed. Recommendations included a follow-up study, replication of the experiment with variations in the sample and treatments, and investigation of the possible utility of a two-score achievement test.

Duration Of State-Dependent Learning Induced By Ncfs-Ecs, Larry Wayne Morris

This paper investigated the course of the state-dependent function induced by NCFS-ECS at 24 hr. time intervals, beginning at 24 or 48 hrs. after NCFS-ECS treatment and terminating at 120 hrs. Results of both experiments indicate a state-dependent effect lasting up to 72 hrs., was absent at the 96 hr. retention test but, apparently returned by the 120 hr. retention test. Recommendations included investigation of fixed time intervals after the 120 hr. retention test.

There has been a difference of opinion regarding whether or not timing tests of ability is advantageous or hinders performance. Much experimentation has been done in the area of intelligence testing, but little has been done on actual classroom-type testing. The results of timing intelligence tests have been varied with little agreement among the studies. The purpose of this study was (1) to test the effect of time-threat on the performance of eighty-two sixth grade students taking an arithmetic test, and (2) to investigate the effect of time-threat on students of different arithmetic abilities.

Recently, however, this method has been questioned by leading special educators. The Intermediate building of the Wapato School District administered the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills twice during the school year. The primary purpose of this testing was to measure the annual growth in skills of each student. The ITBS was used to measure those skills gained between the fall and spring testing. The results of the comparison of the spring and fall testing reflected that students were not gaining a school year's advance on the test results for a school year's instruction. Piaget's Theory As The Basis For The Assessment Of Reading Disability Andsuggested Remediation Through An Adapted Science Curriculum, Vivian Helen Mcprouty

Piaget's theory suggests that the development of intelligence is related to an ability to perform logical operations. For the child between 7 and 11 years of age, seriation and classification are operational forms of behavior originating in earlier actions. Since seriation and classification are important to the syntax and semantics of language) failure to develop fully operational seriation and classification abilities may result in certain deficits in the child's reading ability. If so, the science curriculum may be useful in facilitating the cognitive growth necessary to success in reading. Recommendations for adapting the science program for remediation conclude the study.

The intent of the concentrated summer school program offered in Sacramento was to create a “saturated environment” in which the study of government would become participation in government in action rather than the study about government. The question posed was: Will instruction in government carried out in an environment saturated with study trips and resource speakers prove a more effective method for preparing twelfth grade students for citizenship than is instruction in a traditional government class?
