A Generic Qualitative Study Of District, School, And Teacher Leader Experiences With Increasing Reading And Writing Achievement, Jennifer Fowler

English Language Arts (ELA) test scores have declined since the 2020 COVID-19 virus caused schools and districts in the United States and around the world to shut down for substantial periods of time. School and district leaders and teachers across the country are working to increase ELA achievement.

In this generic qualitative research study, local district, school, and teacher leaders were interviewed and asked questions about their experiences with increasing reading and writing achievement using semi-structured interview protocols.

Re-Centering Students’ Attitudes About Writing: A Qualitative Study Of The Effects Of A High School Writing Center, Katherine Palacio

While attitudes are difficult to assess, a qualitative research study can produce results to give insight into how a student feels a writing center has improved his or her confidence and attitude towards writing. This study reviews the minimal discussion of students‟ attitudes towards writing in past and current writing center research and builds upon the conversation by following three students‟ journeys in the writing center and discussing whether their experiences with the tutors has improved their attitudes about writing.

The high level o frustration voiced by secondary English teachers regarding the lack of resources available for evaluating student writing assignments was addressed by utilizing a quality circle approach to brainstorm and refine various methods of evaluation. Secondary English teachers participated in the creation of the Operation Relief handbook under the guidance of the quality circle coordinator. The results of the creation and dissemination of this handbook indicated a decrease in the level of frustration. The target group for this practicum was 17 community college students. The problem for this practicum is that many students are unable to communicate through writing due to a lack of ability to stay on task or grasp the writing process, resulting in low final grade scores for those students. The solution strategy, a unique approach entitled "Type" Writing," involved pre- and post-surveys with classroom methods and writing assignments keyed to the learning types of the students as identified using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. A Metacognitive Approach To Written Language Instruction For Primary Learning Disabled Students, Madeline Fisher Kuhns

A metacognitive approach to written language instruction was implemented to ameliorate the severe deficits in written language exhibited by the five learning disabled third and fourth graders who made up the target population. The program contained two basic elements: sustained writing practice and strategy training for revision of written projects. The results indicated that students benefited from this program by exhibiting improved cognitive ability, improved attitudes toward writing, and improved metacognitive awareness. The author implemented a computerized management system to improve instructional efficiency within the classroom. A variety of computer application software were used for grading and prescriptive analysis in the fifth grade classroom. The teacher developed a data base of student information, and parental contact was conducted via grade sheet reports and word processed form letters. Keyboard skills were taught to the students during their Computer Science and Language arts lab periods so that word processing skills could be introduced.
