Disruptive behavior in the classroom can cause challenges for both teachers and students, creating high levels of teacher stress and preventing students from accessing academic instruction. Training on evidence-based classroom management is often resource-intensive and has inconsistent impact on teacher behavior in the classroom. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of professional development on paraprofessionals' treatment fidelity of the Caught Being Good Game. We used a multiple baseline design to provide a tiered model of professional development to provide the least intensive level necessary to support implementation. Results indicate that all four teachers successfully implemented most …

What's The Problem: Teacher Stress And Student Behavior, Emma Jaime

Education | Master's Theses

With student behavior and teacher stress being directly linked, there is a lack of insight into how teachers are managing that both in and out of the classroom (Clunies‐Ross, Little, & Kienhuis, 2008). This research highlights the impacts teachers have on their students, both positive and negative. It also offers insight into coping strategies teachers can use in order to maintain a positive classroom environment. I interviewed and collected reflective journals from four teachers with varied levels of experience and grade levels in a singular public elementary school. In the data collection process, common themes included personal and professional stressors, …

Exploring Mid-Level Teacher Use Of Behavior-Specific Praise And General Praise, Catherine Anderson

Curriculum and Instruction Undergraduate Honors Theses

Behavior-specific praise (BSP) is an evidence-based classroom management practice that can be used to increase desired behavior and decrease undesired behavior. Teachers use general praise (GP) more frequently even though it has proven to be less effective than BSP. This study extends previous research on frequency behavior-specific praise in mid-level classrooms. The expected outcome was that mid-level teacher rates of BSP would be much lower than GP. The proposed research questions include the following: What are middle school teacher’s rates of general praise vs. behavior-specific praise? Do teachers deliver behavior-specific praise more frequently to individual students or groups of students? …
