One of the many jobs that the high school guidance counselor may find himself or herself doing is that of curriculum planner.

The objective of this paper is to construct a handbook for conducting a mini course program in Kewanee High School. This handbook can be adopted to set up a mini course program in any educational environment. With only a little modification, a successful program may be set up in a larger or smaller school system. It can also be used as a model for a junior high school or grade school program.

The field of curriculum development is one of vital significance with respect to the field of education as a whole. This field represents a complex and sometimes worrisome aspect of educational administration. Many of the problems of today's system stem from inadequacies in the curriculum.

This thesis is presented as a possible aid in the correcting of three of curriculum development's most significant concerns: relevancy, accountability, and individualization. The statement of the thesis problem is: How can the integration of instructional systems aid in making curriculum more relevant, accountable, and individual?

As illustrated by the title, this field experience included two major areas: (1) an administrative internship and (2) the development of a high school curriculum guide and the updating of course descriptions for the author's school district.

The administrative internship was established for the purpose of giving the author as much first-hand administrative experience as possible. It involved the author (then a teacher at the high school) working during his preparation period each day in the high school office under the direction of the principal. Objectives of the Field Study

  1. To develop an in-service workshop to disseminate the Career Exploration Occupational Information for the Junior High/Middle School, A Planning Curriculum Guide, to administrators and instructors in junior high/middle schools.
  2. To develop an in-service package which would be used during the DAVTE workshop which in turn could be used by the participant to in-service personnel in their own LEA workshop.
  3. To conduct four workshops within the state which would both in-service junior high/middle school personnel and disseminate the planning curriculum guide.
  4. To develop and mail a brochure describing the workshop.
