11.001 Lesley College Schools For Children, 1909-2002, Alyssa Pacy

Finding Aids

The Lesley College Schools for Children collection contains catalogs produced annually and other records from the schools (the Carroll-Hall School, the Lesley-Dearborn School, and the Lesley-Ellis School) that the former Lesley College acquired. Each catalog contains a history of the school, information about faculty, admission, buildings, course descriptions, academic calendars, school policy, and tuition and expenses. The collection also contains a book of published poems from students in Lesley-Ellis Schools' creative writing class from 1958 - 1964.

This collection consists of internal notes, correspondences, and documents that describe and summarize the events and happenings of the Ph.D. Programs. The Advanced Graduate Council records are produced annually and are sorted by academic year.

This collection consists of alumni donations to the Lesley University Archives. Donations may include, but are not limited to; personal correspondence, school records, scrapbooks, artifacts, photographs and published works relating to Lesley University and student experiences at Lesley. Published works have been removed to specific collections within the archives, with a photocopy of the front page of the work remaining within the Alumni Donation collection.

This collection consists of handbooks published annually by the Ph.D. Programs at Lesley University for the incoming students and faculty. These handbooks contain information about the faculty, administrative officers, language requirements, library guidelines, course descriptions, dissertation guidelines, and an explanation of the different Ph.D. stages at Lesley University.

The Lesley Magazine Collection comprises issues from December 1987 to 2009, and also includes the special Centennial issue, 2009-2010.

Lesley Magazine was published biannually by the office of public relations at Lesley University and was distributed without charge to alumni and friends of the University.

Lesley College Newsletters comprises news and newsletters written and published by the college’s Office of Public Relations (now Office of Communications) and provided to the Lesley community. The following publications are contained in the collection: Lesley Weekly, Lesley College Newsletter, the Lesley College News, and Lesley News.

10.01.006 Lesley College Current, 1970-1987, Marie Wasnock

Finding Aids

The Lesley College Current was published by the Lesley College Office of Public Relations and Communications and distributed to alumnae, parents, students, faculty, staff, governing boards, and friends of Lesley.

Its purpose was to represent various aspects of the College - its achievements, aspirations, diversity, and controversies. In September 1970, the Current replaced the Alumnae Review, the Parents Newsletter, and the Community Newsletter.

13.001 Lesley University Archives Oral History Collection, 2008-2010, Marie Wasnock

Finding Aids

The Lesley University Archives' Oral History Collection comprises recorded interviews conducted with Lesley alumni, professor emeriti, former staff and laboratory school teachers. The interviews are in digital .wav audio format. Transcripts of selected interviews, pre-interview preparation materials and administrative paperwork are also available.

14.01 Lesley University Special Collections, Objects And Memorabilia, 1929-2002, Alyssa Pacy

This collection consists of a variety of materials that are organized into the following categories: artwork, objects, scrapbooks, and textiles. Some highlights include former president of the Lesley College Board of Trustees Livingston Stebbins’ family coat of arms, the trowel that former Lesley College President Trentwell Mason White used during the dedication ceremony of Trentwell Mason White Hall, a gym suit from the 1930s-1940s, and a green Lesley blazer. Also included are several scrapbooks, one of which chronicles the life of a Lesley School student in 1929.

This collection comprises photographs, slides, and audiovisual materials (videotapes, cassettes, CDs, DVDs) created and collected by the School of Practical Art (SPA), the Art Institute of Boston (AIB), and the Lesley University College of Art and Design (LUCAD).

Photographic materials document administration, faculty, students, and campus life; artists and artwork exhibits; and special events on campus between 1940-2005.

The collection contains handbooks produced annually by Lesley College (the undergraduate school), which had the following name changes: the Lesley Normal School, 1909-1920; the Lesley School, 1920-1944; Lesley College, 1944- 2009 and 2012- 2015. The handbooks contains the academic calendar, Lesley facts, campus maps, information from the student government association, student services (including health services), campus regulations (including residence hall rules), academic regulations, academic awards, scholarships, loans, student activities (including religious groups and clubs), names of administrative officers and the Board of Trustees, phone numbers, and a listing of each student by class.

Formerly called The Lesleyan, this collection consists of yearbooks published annually by Lesley College for the graduating classes between the years 1924 to 2008. The yearbooks contain photographs of students, staff, faculty and organizations, providing a valuable historical view of Lesley University throughout the years. The yearbook was not published in 2007 and 2009-present.

The Lesley Review was a quarterly publication by Lesley College featuring articles on current events, issues, and alumnae news. The Lesley Review collection comprises issues published between 1958 and 1970. The Spring 1958 issue (vol. 1, no. 1) of the "Lesley Alumnae Bulletin" appears to be the predecessor to the "Lesley Review." In Fall 1967, the "Lesley Review" changed its title to the "Lesley Alumnae Review."

This collection consists of directories published annually by Lesley College (the undergraduate school) for the incoming freshman class and transfer students. They cover the following years: 1958-1975, 1986-1988, 1999-2000. This collection is comprised of newspapers written and published by Lesley College students between 1938 and 1983.

“The Lantern” was a weekly, student-run newspaper published during the school year. It featured articles about the undergraduate school, including campus news and events, faculty and staff appointments, stories on student activities, editorials, letters to the editor, music, plays and movie reviews, and local advertisers. This series includes issues from 1938-1939, 1948-1949, and 1954-1971.

Exploring Parents' Experiences Of Postsecondary Education For Their Children With Disabilities, Cara G. Streit

This study explored the expectations and experiences of parents whose adult children graduated from a comprehensive college-based postsecondary education program for students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Seventeen parents of graduates from the Lesley University Threshold Program in Cambridge, MA were interviewed in the style of narrative inquiry. Subjects were asked to describe their expectations for their sons’ and daughters’ futures as they grew up, the role of a college program in their children’s development and in the evolution of their own expectations, their hopes and concerns for the future, and their opinions of college inclusion and how greater inclusion …
