Gender Violence In India Prajnya Report 2010, Professor Vibhuti Patel
Gender Violence In India Prajnya Report 2010, Professor Vibhuti Patel
Professor Vibhuti Patel
Gender violence in personal lives as well as the systems and structures perpetuating it need serious examination. Indian women experience all kinds of gendered violence at different stages of their lives, from womb to tomb, as a result of modernisation and commercialisation of subsistence economies, family ties becoming less supportive, increasing migration, demanding work, inhuman labour processes in informal economies, sectarian vested interests manifesting through identity politics, trafficking of women and girls as cheap labour, forced marriage and various forms of misogyny in print and electronic media. Honour killing of young lovers and married couples by their relatives brings to …
Using The Economic Concept Of A 'Merit Good' To Justify The Teaching Of Ethics Across The University Curriculum, Mark Nowacki, Wilfried Ver Eecke
Using The Economic Concept Of A 'Merit Good' To Justify The Teaching Of Ethics Across The University Curriculum, Mark Nowacki, Wilfried Ver Eecke
John N. WILLIAMS
Philosophers often lament the limited role that philosophy plays in the intellectual formation of the average university student. Once central to university life—there was a time when the study of philosophy defined what it meant to be a student of the liberal arts—philosophy as a subject of study has become marginalized. It is a painful reality that in many universities philosophy has been reduced to the status of a fluffy elective, a course of study to be conscientiously avoided by the more "practical" and "hard nosed" students bent upon success in the pragmatic worlds of business and politics. Only classical …

Não Uma Outra República, A Nossa República, Outra, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
Leaching Mechanism Of Semiconducting Minerals, Fathi Habashi
Leaching Mechanism Of Semiconducting Minerals, Fathi Habashi
Fathi Habashi
The mechanism of leaching of semiconducting minerals such as PbS, ZnS, UO2, etc., has been the subject of intensive speculation by hydrometallurgists in the early 1950s. The electrochemical mechanism proposed in 1970 by the author in volume 2 of his Principles of Extractive Metallurgy avoids the assumption of forming intermediate complexes that cannot be isolated or identified.

1st, 2nd And 3rd Generation Implementations Of An Elearning Deign: Re-Use From Postgraduate Law To Block/Online Engineering Course, S. R. Lambert, C. J. Brewer
Sarah Lambert
In order to meet the demands of postgraduate students who were time poor and unable to regularly attend face-to-face classes, one lecturer in the Faculty Law at the University of Wollongong (UOW) sought the assistance of a Learning Designer to redesign the Postgraduate Practical Legal Training (PLT) program into a flexible blended learning format, using a block/online approach. The program used an authentic workplace-simulated model that took advantage of emerging technologies to enable effective online teaching and learning. This learning design was reused to redesign two subjects within the Postgraduate Engineering Management course. To monitor the effectiveness of this approach …

Sarah Lambert
The University of Wollongong has been strategically exploring ePortfolios since 2002. Building on lessons learnt from student trials across two different disciplines in 2002/3 and 2006, the project team is on the verge of implementing a university wide ePortfolio tool customisable for all students across all faculties. This paper describes the steps taken on the road thus far, including a description and justification of a new project structure and consultative framework developed to guide the implementation.

El Diseño De Cursos De Lenguas Basados En Tareas, Kerwin A. Livingstone
Kerwin A. Livingstone

Kerwin A. Livingstone

Changing Mutual Perception Of Television News Viewers And Program Makers In India- A Case Study Of Cnn-Ibn And Its Unique Initiative Of Citizen Journalism, Ratnesh Dwivedi Mr
Ratnesh Dwivedi
The Indian television system is one of the most extensive systems in the world. Terrestrial broadcasting, which has been the sole preserve of the government, provides television coverage to over 90% of India's 900 million people. By the end of 1996 nearly 50 million households had television sets. International satellite broadcasting, introduced in 1991, has swept across the country because of the rapid proliferation of small scale cable systems. By the end of 1996, Indians could view dozens of foreign and local channels and the competition for audiences and advertising revenues was one of the hottest in the world. In …
Revisões Constitucionais Inconstitucionais?, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
Revisões Constitucionais Inconstitucionais?, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha

Gêneros Textuais E Práticas Discursivas Jurídicas: A Arquitetura De Uma Petição Inicial, Marcia Terezinha Jerônimo Oliveira Cruz
Marcia Terezinha Jerônimo Oliveira Cruz
O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a Petição Inicial enquanto gênero textual.

Enabling Leadership Capacity Through Authentic Learning: The Faculty Scholars Program, Geraldine E. Lefoe, Dominique Rene Parrish
Geraldine Lefoe
An identified gap in the higher education sector is the development of leadership capacity for teaching and learning. Significant funding has been allocated by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) to support the development of academic leadership in higher education. The outcomes of this initiative will ultimately improve the student experience as a more scholarly approach to the many aspects of teaching and learning is adopted. One project funded by ALTC supported four universities to develop and trial a framework for leadership capacity development. Five critical factors for success were identified including authentic learning activities that were situated in …

Ascilite Report 4 For The Carrick Exchange Project: Final Report, R. Philip, Dominique R. Parrish, Geraldine E. Lefoe, Meg O'Reilly
Geraldine Lefoe
Whilst the development of repositories for sharing learning and teaching resources has expanded considerably in the last few years in Australia, many repositories have a particular institutional or discipline focus. In Australia there is no dedicated national repository or community available for the higher education sector that provides a cross disciplinary forum for sharing ideas and resources about learning and teaching, and for cross-institutional collaboration. The Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education is well placed to address this gap by developing the Carrick Exchange (see Phillips, Orrell & Millea, 2007). Utilising the current expansion and availability of …

Enabling Teaching, Enabling Learning: How Does Staff Development Fit The Educational Technology Landscape?, Geraldine E. Lefoe, I. Olney, A. Herrington
Geraldine Lefoe
The New Technologies: New Pedagogies Project is a nationally funded project to support the use of mobile learning in higher education to support student learning. We explore the staff development process of this larger project, where academics in a Faculty of Education investigate new pedagogies that are required to meet the needs of millennial learners. The staff development process addressed the need for staff to own and use mobile technology in their professional and personal contexts in order to think differently about engaging their students in pedagogically sound ways. We identified four key actions for participants which contributed significantly to …

The Online Theology Classroom: Strategies For Engaging A Community Of Distance Learners In A Hybrid Model Of Online Education, Brent A. R. Hege
The Online Theology Classroom: Strategies For Engaging A Community Of Distance Learners In A Hybrid Model Of Online Education, Brent A. R. Hege
Brent A. R. Hege
The key to success in online education is the creation and sustenance of a safe and vibrant virtual community. In order to create such a community instructors must pay special attention to the relationship between technology and pedagogy, specifically in terms of issues such as course design, social presence, facilitation of sustained engagement with course material, specially tailored assignments, and learner expectations and objectives. Several strategies for accomplishing this goal are presented here based on the author’s experiences teaching second career students in hybrid introductory theology courses at a mainline denominational seminary.
Intimate Pedagogy: The Practice Of Embodiment In University Classrooms, Katie Rose Guest Pryal
Intimate Pedagogy: The Practice Of Embodiment In University Classrooms, Katie Rose Guest Pryal
Katie Rose Guest Pryal
In this article, I examine the intimacy of university classrooms, especially in the context of gender, sex, and sexuality. I suggest that students and professors constantly battle the intimacy that arises in pedagogical relationships. Despite our best efforts, these moments of intimacy intrude upon students' relationships with one another and professors' relationships with students. These intrusions are often unexpected and uncontrollable, and are inextricably tied to gender and sexuality. These moments when the facade breaks down, moments of embodiment, are when the greatest teaching can occur. In order to be great professors, we must attain a level of intimacy with …

'Shake This Square World And Blast Off For Kicksville:' Teaching History With Post-Wwii Prescriptive Classroom Films, Jessamyn Neuhaus
Jessamyn Neuhaus
The article discusses using social adjustment films from the late 1940s to the 1960s to teach students about U.S. history. It examines several films' themes including sexuality, manners, and drug use. Other films concerned safety, driving, and dating. The author reflects on her students' reactions to the films and analyzes humor as an educational tool. Several prescriptive classroom films are discussed, including "Marijuana," starring singer Sonny Bono, "A Date With Your Family," and "What to Do on a Date." The article also comments on viewing these mental hygiene films as reactions to social change.
Spiritually Integrative Archetypal Energies And Glimpes Into Soul Consciousness, Carroy U. Ferguson
Spiritually Integrative Archetypal Energies And Glimpes Into Soul Consciousness, Carroy U. Ferguson
Carroy U "Cuf" Ferguson, Ph.D.
In other writings I have described Archetypal Energies as Higher Vibrational Energies that have their own transcendent value, purpose, quality, and “voice” unique to the individual that operate deep within our psyches, at both individual and collective levels. We tend to experience them as “creative urges” to move us toward our Highest Good or Optimal Realities. I use easily recognized terms to evoke a common sense of these Archetypal Energies (e.g., Love, Acceptance, Inclusion, Harmony, Peace). Here, I want to discuss Spiritually Integrative Archetypal Energies and how they can assist us in gaining glimpses into the nature of our unique …
Toward A "Democratic" Vision Of Pedagogy: Hermeneutic Interpretation Through Communicative Discourse In The Humanities Classroom, James Magrini
Toward A "Democratic" Vision Of Pedagogy: Hermeneutic Interpretation Through Communicative Discourse In The Humanities Classroom, James Magrini
James M Magrini
Philosophers of education writing on teaching for social justice and student empowerment have suggested various theories for enacting a "democratic" learning environment within our schools. Strategies that have been suggested include classroom management stressing student-centered learning, peer-interaction, and the inclusion of diverse learning needs and styles grounded in a pedagogy composed of instructor-student initiated "discourse." Building on "social meliorist," or Social Reconstruction curriculum theory, I attempt to define the notion of authentic "critical pedagogy" through the analysis of classroom instruction in the humanities, and literature in particular. There is the potential for the emergence in praxis of an authentic "democratic" …
