Competencies For A Leadership Role In Educational Development, Kristi Jordan Verbeke
Competencies For A Leadership Role In Educational Development, Kristi Jordan Verbeke
Wayne State University Dissertations
Because the field of educational development (also known as faculty development, academic development, and staff development) is relatively new, very little is known about the competencies required for those who work in the field. Additionally, there are no formal pathways or means of formal preparation for educational developers. This study utilized a mixed-methods research design to explore the competencies required for a leadership role in the field of educational development.
The first part of the study sought to identify these competencies by using the Delphi technique to survey experts in the field. The second part explored whether these competencies were …
The Road Taken: A Between And Within Subjects Study Of Intervention Selection Decisions By Performance Improvement Professionals, Hillary Leigh
The Road Taken: A Between And Within Subjects Study Of Intervention Selection Decisions By Performance Improvement Professionals, Hillary Leigh
Wayne State University Dissertations
Background: In performance improvement, intervention selection is a complex decision that ought to be based on the best available evidence. Despite this, there is little research into what sources of evidence are used in intervention selection and what changes in belief occur during performance improvement professionals' decisions. Framed in decision theory, this study aims to resolve these problems. Methods: Sixty-one Certified Performance Technologists completed a dynamic, Web-delivered questionnaire where they provided a general assessment of intervention success (Pr1), then responded to 12 performance improvement scenarios; by selecting an intervention, providing a prior probability (Pr2), receiving additional …
A Designed Research Study Examining The Impact Of Using A Motivational Model For Mastering The Crash Cart, Debra Amaro
A Designed Research Study Examining The Impact Of Using A Motivational Model For Mastering The Crash Cart, Debra Amaro
Wayne State University Dissertations
Abstract
This research study examined the effects of strategically designed crash cart training using Keller's motivational design model ARCS (Keller, 2010) for novice nurses. The purpose of this mixed methods design-based research study was to determine the motivational levels of novice/beginner nurses in the work environment and seek out whether or not motivational designed instruction for the crash cart will significantly impact their mastery of the crash cart. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected within iterations of the study to determine the motivational levels of novice nurses pertaining to crash cart training. Motivational levels were determined utilizing Keller's (2010), "Course …

Distance learning programs in higher education are evolving into the preferred model for how we educate learners in the 21st century. The traditional role of an instructor was focused on creating an effective learning environment based in a physical classroom setting. In this decade, institutions are educating and training online instructors to a virtual online asynchronous learning environment. Online programs based in higher education, specifically those focused …
Effects Of Interdisciplinary Designers Reflecting-In-Action During Design, John William Baaki
Effects Of Interdisciplinary Designers Reflecting-In-Action During Design, John William Baaki
Wayne State University Dissertations
As a specific type of reflective practice, reflection-in-action emphasizes that unique and uncertain situations are understood through attempts to change them, and changed through the attempts to understand the situations (Schön, 1983). The purpose of this interdisciplinary research was to study reflection-in-action regarding three aspects of design activity (content, context, and process). The study addressed four research questions: (a) what is the impact of reflection-in-action on evaluation processes while a design is developing and not yet complete, (b) what effect does reflection-in-action have on keeping a design project moving forward toward implementation, (c) what impact does the design's problem-solution relationship …
