Factors That Lead American Foreign Language Students To Discontinue The Study Of The Target Language Past The Minimum Requirement, Gabriele Seffert

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Factors that lead American foreign language students to discontinue the study of the target language past the minimum requirement. This research project expanded on a study by Shedivy (2004) who investigated motivational factors for continuation of foreign language acquisition after the two-year minimum requirement during high school. Seffert's (2007) study sought reasons why students did not continue beyond the two-year minimum. The phenomenological inquiry was supported by literature on historic-political factors, motivational considerations, and educational strategies influencing students' interest in second language acquisition. Subjects of this study were between the age of 18 and 40 and had discontinued foreign language …

Implementation Of A Reading Curriculum In A 6 Week Summer Enrichment Program, Katie J. Holz-Russell Apr 2007

Implementation Of A Reading Curriculum In A 6 Week Summer Enrichment Program, Katie J. Holz-Russell

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

In this research project, the author presents an enrichment curriculum that will be implemented in the Denver Summerbridge 6 week summer school program. Denver public school students choose to attend this program because they are seeking academic enrichment during the summer. They seek enrichment from Denver Summerbridge because most supplementary programs at their home schools focus on closing the achievement gap and increasing standardized test scores, rather than offering a structured enrichment program for gifted students. The curriculum presented in Chapter 4 provides a framework for a 9th grade literacy classroom. The author attempted to strike a balance between reviewing …

Examining The Effectiveness Of Computer Animations As A Tool In Teaching High School Introductory Chemistry, Carl G. Bailey Jan 2007

Examining The Effectiveness Of Computer Animations As A Tool In Teaching High School Introductory Chemistry, Carl G. Bailey

Regis University Student Publications (comprehensive collection)

Computer animations may provide educators with a viable way to address chemistry's abstract nature. Current research suggests that students benefit from even short exposure to computer animations of molecular events. This applied study examined the potential benefit of using computer animations to enhance traditional teaching techniques. Two groups of students, one taught with computer animations and one taught without computer animations, completed the same assessments. Statistical analysis of the assessments provides evidence that the use of computer animations leads to improved student comprehension of microscopic processes and their relationship to macroscopic phenomena occurring in gases.
