This action research studied the impact of having a maker mindset on a unit of study in art and coding classrooms. This study was conducted with two fifth grade classrooms in a rural kindergarten through eighth grade charter school. Two specialist teachers, one from Art and one from Coding conducted the research over the period of four lessons each. Pre- and post-surveys were administered as well as student journaling, exit slips, and a final project rubric. The Effect Of Thinking Routines On 4th And 5th-Grade Students’ Sense Of Agency, Cyrena Beaumont, Kelsey Martin

This action research project has studied the effects of implementing Agency by Design thinking routines and makerspaces on the development of student agency. The study was conducted in two upper-elementary school classrooms: one fifth-grade suburban classroom in Florida, and one fourth- and fifth-grade rural, gifted and talented classroom in Minnesota. During the study, researchers collected baseline data from a pre-assessment related to student perceptions around their own sense of agency and sensitivity to design.
