A Study Of The Causes Of Racial Friction As Represented In The Detroit, Beaumont, And Harlem Outbreaks, Evelyn B. Knight
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study has to do with the causes of racial friction as represented in the Detroit, Beaumont and Harlem outbreaks occurring in 1943. It will be pointed out that the incidental causes of such riots are symptoms leading to the exploratory job of finding the disease of "scapegoatism”. A survey of literature on the problem will bring about some understanding of the importance of racial prejudices and their relation to an international understanding. The opinions of experts in such fields as anthropology, economics, sociology, and psychology will be analyzed in an effort to determine how such friction may be eliminated …

The University of Louisville, like most other universities, played an important role in World War II in the training of Service Men for active duty in the Navy, and now in the post-war era, finds herself taxed to the limit to provide educational facilities for her veteran students. To admit large numbers of students, whether veteran or non veteran, without some sort of screening process to identify those who obviously could not do college work would be wasteful of manpower and public moneys. The policy which the University has used for many years is known to be a valid procedure, …

As a teacher in the Louisville Elementary Schools for the last seven years, with experience in the fifth grade the past five, the writer has felt a need for class excursions to clarify the thinking of the fifth grade pupils and to enrich the …

Teachers are a busy group. Contrary to the belief of many persons who are not in close contact with a teacher, the school day does not end when the children leave the building. No indeed--there are faculty meetings, committee meetings, P.T.A. meetings, educational association meetings and supervisor meetings to mention but a few of the functions every teacher is expected to attend. In the evening there are papers to grade, lessons to prepare, professional books and articles to read, and numerous records of many varieties to keep. Few teachers enjoy the luxury of an eight hour working day. It is …
