An Investigation Of The Self-Efficacy Development Of Newly Hired Occasional Teachers In Southwestern Ontario, Dayna Haslam
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For many new teachers, Occasional Teaching is often a rite of passage into the teaching profession. These early years in a new teacher’s career are significantly impactful and formative, as signified by the research of self-efficacy development of new teachers. However, an overwhelming majority of this self-efficacy research focuses primarily on new teachers working in permanent positions. This research study endeavors to examine the ways in which Occasional Teachers perceive their self-efficacy in a constantly changing work environment. In this qualitative research study, I investigated the lived experiences and the precarity that define Occasional Teaching. Semi-structured interviews and an autoethnographic …

An Evaluation Of Programs And Leadership Practices For Effective Dropout Prevention, Nicole C. West
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Abstract
This mixed-methods study explored a problem within dropout research which often fails to link characteristics of student subgroups with effective dropout interventions. Considering the characteristics identified in the literature of at-risk learners, the conceptual framework for this study combined the theory of self-efficacy and leadership with emphasis on servant leadership. The purpose of the study was to evaluate dropout intervention and prevention programs in two high schools by examining intervention and leadership practices for students at risk of dropping out of high school. Through causal-comparative and phenomenological approaches, this investigation focused on identifying dropout factors targeted in the intervention …

Traditional And Alternative Certification Programs And Their Effect On Elementary School Teachers’ Efficacy Beliefs In Title I And Non-Title I Schools, Rita Gale Sullivan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
School districts across the United States face the challenges of teacher shortages and rely heavily on alternative certification programs to fill teaching positions. Over the last decade, researchers question the quality of fast-track teacher preparation programs compared to traditional educational paths. This quantitative, causal-comparative study examined two methods of obtaining teacher certification (traditional and alternative) and their impact on novice teacher self-efficacy levels in Title I and non-Title I schools. Elementary teachers with five years or less of experience, traditionally and alternatively certified, were asked 24 questions using the Likert-type Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale on student engagement, instructional practices, …
Entry-Level Occupational Therapy Doctoral Students' Self-Efficacy For The Doctoral Capstone Experience: A Mixed Methods Analysis, Ann B. Cook

Six doctoral students enrolled in an entry-level occupational therapy doctoral program at a private university were recruited to participate. Students completed a four-item self-efficacy rating scale prior to and several times throughout their DCE. Participants also participated in semi-structured phone interviews regarding their relationship with their Site Mentor after completing the DCE.
Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and Kruskal-Wallis H tests. The quantitative analysis determined that there were no significant differences in self-efficacy for students …
Space To Lead: Cognitive Coaching As Mindful School Leader Practice., Jennifer Helm Cox
Space To Lead: Cognitive Coaching As Mindful School Leader Practice., Jennifer Helm Cox
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Anxious, stressed school leaders can adversely affect the climate and culture of the communities they serve. The multiple roles a principal must fulfill for their schools leave little room for renewal, self-development and reflection leaving principals feeling drained of energy and a true sense of continual mastery, leaving them with low self-efficacy and primed for burnout. Leaders engaged in growing their flexibility, mindful awareness, professional and personal development may be more resilient, agile, and responsive to the high demand of school administrator’s job. This study examined the experiences of 5 principals in a suburban school district as they engaged in …
