This observational case-study examined teacher efficacy and its influence on classroom management when teaching African American males in grades preK-2, through the lens of choice theory (Glasser, 1998). Data were analyzed with the intent of gaining an in-depth understanding of how teacher efficacy influenced classroom management when addressing the needs of survival, power, freedom, fun, and belonging of African American males in grades preK-2. Effects Of Dual Language Protocol On Literacy Development Of Yup'ik Language Students, Kristin Sattler Henke

This dissertation in teacher leadership represents original, independent research that investigated bilingual language instruction of an indigenous Alaskan group of students. Ethnographic research using qualitative and quantitative data was applied to develop an understanding of correlations between the value of English and Yup’ik language and dual language classroom protocol and pedagogy. This research included cultural insight into the history of language transition, influence of Westernized educational system, and teachers’ and community members’ attitudes toward bilingual instruction. Factors Influencing Teacher Efficacy In A Pennsylvania Juvenile Detention Center Education Program, Rachel M. Weaver

This dissertation describes the factors influencing teacher efficacy among teachers currently or recently working in a juvenile detention center education program in southeastern Pennsylvania. The single-case study examined the barriers and facilitators to high teacher efficacy in that school setting, since these factors were previously unknown. The research population for the study consisted of all teachers who are working or who have worked within the past five years at the juvenile detention center education program (n=9). Research was conducted using the Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale (Tschannen-Moran & Hoy, 2001), a questionnaire, and in-person interviews. The following were found to …
