Social skills instruction is an essential part of special education programming. There are many different approaches to social skills instruction, and there are studies that show the benefits to these different approaches. The research presented here seeks to answer this question: What methods of social skills instruction are most effective for middle school students? Studies included explore the use of literacy-based interventions, direct instruction, group-orientated contingency, and other methods of social skills interventions. Following the literature review this researcher created a three-year social skills curriculum designed for special education students in the middle school setting.

This literature review is an explorative examination of the current research related to how technology integration impacts the middle school classroom. With technology becoming more common in the home, work-pace, and school, studies highlighting the usefulness of these different tools are becoming a necessity for educators as they move forward with the development of the institution of education. Becoming Visible: Improving Reading Comprehension At The Middle Level, Keri M. Norell

This paper examines reading comprehension at the middle level. The literature review covers definitions of reading comprehension and then discusses specific challenges and characteristics of middle level readers, with a particular focus on the importance of engagement, visible thinking, and a growth mindset for middle level readers. Specific strategies and tools for teaching and assessing reading comprehension are explained and samples are provided. The importance of continuing literacy instruction at the middle level is emphasized throughout.
