The purpose of this study is to determine the student's ability (according to his own rating), where his interests lie, and at what age, and where male students first learn physical activities that are taught in the high schools of Utah.

Prior to the year 1913, there had been some schools at the Utah State Agricultural College that had had biological science, exact science, language and arts, and social science groups for the graduates to fill requirements in before they could graduate from these particular schools.

However, it was not until the year 1913 that all of the schools, with the exception of the engineering school, were required to make the students meet these basic group requirements.

A considerable number of leaders in education are seriously considering a limited extention of the educational program in the summer. The various churches conduct what are sometimes called vacation schools, some of which are conducted in mountain retreats, where they combine recreation and bible study classes. There is now a law in Utah which permits school districts to levy taxes to pay for organized public recreation programs. The problem of this study is to determine, so far as possible, the conditions, reasons, and underlying motives which have led to the dismissal, demotion, or non-issuance of contracts to teachers in the state of Utah during a recent five-year period - 1943-1947, and also what methods have been used in terminating the tenure of those teachers who have been considered undesirable by their employers. The study will seek to reveal the extent to which the professional education associations are influential in determining policies for the dismissal of teachers. This research project endeavors to supply the need for a vocabulary testing device for the admittance and guidance of entering freshman students at Utah State Agricultural College at Logan, Utah. The need is for a test designed specifically to predict possibilities of success in courses which incoming students encounter and in which they are required to progress at a rate considered satisfactory according to college standards. The program followed in this study is two-fold: (1) to develop a vocabulary test, and (2) to verify the sucess of this test as a predictor of grade-point averages.
