A Predictive Analytics Approach To Building A Decision Support System For Improving Graduation Rates At A Four-Year College, Xuan Wang, Helmut Schneider, Kenneth R. Walsh Dec 2020

A Predictive Analytics Approach To Building A Decision Support System For Improving Graduation Rates At A Four-Year College, Xuan Wang, Helmut Schneider, Kenneth R. Walsh

Information Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations

Although graduation rates have interested stakeholders, educational researchers, and policymakers for some time, little progress has been made on the overall graduation rate at four-year state colleges. Even though selective admission based on academic indicators such as high school GPA and ACT/ SAT have widely been used in the USA for years, and recent statistics show that less than 40% of students graduate from four-year state colleges in four years in the US. The authors propose using an ensemble of analytic models that considers cost as a better form of analysis that can be used as input to decision support …

Understanding Key Drivers Of Mooc Satisfaction And Continuance Intention To Use, Yunfan Lu, Bin Wang, Yaobin Lu Jan 2019

Understanding Key Drivers Of Mooc Satisfaction And Continuance Intention To Use, Yunfan Lu, Bin Wang, Yaobin Lu

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have attracted global audiences who desire to learn. However, the completion rate of these courses is less than 10 percent. Few studies have systematically researched the influence of expectation-confirmation theory (ECT) and user experience (e.g., flow experience, perceived interest) on user satisfaction of and the continuance intention to use MOOCs. The present study examines the drivers of MOOC satisfaction based on ECT and the influence of satisfaction on user behavior. A research model reflecting the relationships among confirmation, usefulness, interest, flow, satisfaction, and continuance intention to use, and intention to recommend was developed and tested …

E-Book Acceptance Among Undergraduate Students: A Look At The Moderating Role Of Technology Innovativeness, Madison N. Ngafeeson, Jun Sun Sep 2015

E-Book Acceptance Among Undergraduate Students: A Look At The Moderating Role Of Technology Innovativeness, Madison N. Ngafeeson, Jun Sun

Information Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations

This paper utilizes the technology acceptance model (TAM) to uncover the moderating roles of technology innovativeness. A study of 158 undergraduate students revealed that the original TAM constructs and relationships were reliable, supported, and applicable in the measurement of e-book acceptance. Interestingly, personal technology innovativeness was found to moderate in a significant way, the relationship between behavioral intention to use e-book and actual usage of e-book. These findings suggest that while individuals who are more open to technology (adopters) as well as less technologically innovative individuals (late adopters and non-adopters) are likely to have the intention to use webbased instructional …

A Call To Include Workflow Management Systems In Mis Curriculum, Vikram Bhadauria, Anil Gurung, Anil Singh Sep 2015

A Call To Include Workflow Management Systems In Mis Curriculum, Vikram Bhadauria, Anil Gurung, Anil Singh

Information Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations

Despite being identified as an emerging topic, Work Flow Management Systems (WMS) has not been included in the Management Information Systems (MIS) curriculum of most US universities. Workflow system combines business and technology and requires the integration of management policies and IT systems. MIS students can benefit from the knowledge of WMS and be able to explore job opportunities. We argue for the inclusion of WMS as an independent course and develop the framework for a full-fledged workflow management module in MIS. We explore the WMS components and the influential factors that are important for pedagogy and we conclude with …

The Effects Of Technology Innovativeness And System Exposure On Student Acceptance Of E-Textbooks, Madison N. Ngafeeson, Jun Sun Jan 2015

The Effects Of Technology Innovativeness And System Exposure On Student Acceptance Of E-Textbooks, Madison N. Ngafeeson, Jun Sun

Information Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations

The efforts of educators in the last three decades have, among other things, focused on the use of information technology (IT) in education. It has become commonplace to view information systems both as an effective carrier of course content as well as a cost-effective tool to improve student learning outcomes. One of such technologies is the e-book. Decision-makers in the education field need make sense of this technological transformation. However, despite the growing popularity of e-books in higher education, its adoption by students is yet to be crystalized. This study exploits the technology acceptance model (TAM) framework to examine student …

E-Learning Tools For Andragogy: A Scale Model Of Technology-Based Active Learning, Ying Wang, Kai S. Koong, Jun Sun Oct 2013

E-Learning Tools For Andragogy: A Scale Model Of Technology-Based Active Learning, Ying Wang, Kai S. Koong, Jun Sun

Information Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations

Andragogy is an educational philosophy on how to facilitate active learning for adult students. It requires instructors to engage students in various learning activities, including problem solving, essay writing, discussions, group projects, and so on. The challenge is how to facilitate student participation and assess learning outcomes. The emergence of e-learning tools, such as Discussion Board, Wiki, Blogs, and Wimba provide technical support for the new learning approach. Based on the review of information systems and education literature, this study develops a taxonomy of e-learning tools. In particular, it proposes a scale model based on the premise that e-learning tools …
