Jason Pieratt, an enrollment and retention analyst hired by the Division of Undergraduate Education for the purpose of developing this brief, interviewed in early August 2012 selected individuals from across the diverse communities of the University of Kentucky staff, students and faculty. College Drinking: A Call To Physicians, Shawn Sorrel, Hatim A. Omar

The aim of this paper was to review literature related to prevalence of drinking on college campuses and current prevention practices targeting this population. This paper focuses on current data surrounding alcohol use and misuse. It further discusses strategies which have been successful to prevent alcohol abuse. Finally, it discusses the need for further research to determine the role of the physician in alcohol prevention at university student health services.

Bctcblue+ Program: A Joint Enrollment/Joint Admissions Program Supporting Transfer Student Success At The University Of Kentucky, Randolph Hollingsworth
Undergraduate Education White Papers
This paper outlines the purpose and goals of the BCTCblue+ Program, its impact on student success and how it relates to the University of Kentucky’s mission. The findings from the review of the Program show that it supports a more intentional admissions and transfer process for incoming UK students. In addition, the Program addresses a critical role in transitioning UK’s reverse transfer population back into a baccalaureate degree program for successful graduation.

This white paper describes the origins of the University joining this international consortium and the overall goals for the program in terms of UK student success. The Program's review by the University's faculty leadership in the undergraduate colleges revealed that not only is this student exchange program useful for UK's upper division students seeking quicker time to degree, but it is also a conduit for the UK community to be enriched by the contributions from high quality students from other institutions.

Universities and colleges across the United States are making innovative strides in higher education programming to catalyze a more sustainable era of agriculture. This is clearly exemplified through the formation of community-university partnerships as critical illustrations of civic engagement (CE) for sustainable agriculture (SA) education. This paper explores the praxis of CE for SA education by focusing on the ways in which five land-grant universities (LGUs) with undergraduate programs in SA have developed and put into practice community-university partnerships. This proposal was presented via handouts and accompanying slides to the University of Kentucky Faculty Senate Council on February 20, 2012. The proposal hinges on two main purposes:
- an alternative for Kentucky's high school students that choose to accelerate their time to degree by completing a challenging course at UK; and,
- a strategic improvement to existing enrollments at UK by high school students that would lead to more long-term relationships and shorten time to a college degree from UK.
