Adapted Art Curriculum: A Guide For Teachers Of Students With Disabilities, Genevieve Yoder
Adapted Art Curriculum: A Guide For Teachers Of Students With Disabilities, Genevieve Yoder
Graduate Education Student Scholarship
Due to the changes in the educational system since the 1997 Individuals with Disabilities Act, few resources have been created to assist art teachers in adapting curriculum and art tools for students with disabilities. This research project explores studies in art and disabilities, as well as curriculum adaptations. The literature review offers an extensive view at current literature on four major themes: a need for curriculum, general education curriculum adaptations, adapted arts curriculum, and the impact of arts education in the lives of people with disabilities. Based on this research, a project was developed to incorporate aspects of these themes …

Exploration Of Positive Teacher-Student Relationships In The Online Context Of Vipkid, Elise R. Mcclelland
Exploration Of Positive Teacher-Student Relationships In The Online Context Of Vipkid, Elise R. Mcclelland
Graduate Education Student Scholarship
In this paper, I explore how VIPKid teachers build positive relationships with students in their unique online context. I began by establishing the need, importance, and nature of positive teacher-student relationships. I included the results of a survey given to 36 VIPKid teachers in order to better understand the perspective of these teachers on positive relationships with students, what barriers these teachers face in building relationships, and what techniques they employ to build relationships. I found that the results imply that in order to build better relationships with students, VIPKid teachers must communicate care for their students despite barriers they …
Asd Parent Guidelines: Informed Conversations At The Iep Table, Meredith T. Adomanis
Asd Parent Guidelines: Informed Conversations At The Iep Table, Meredith T. Adomanis
Graduate Education Student Scholarship
This criterion-based study was conducted on research of an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, the different severity levels now included in the DSM5, and evidence-based accommodations that allow students with autism to have a successful educational experience, in order to create Parent Guidelines: Informed Conversations at the IEP Table. The guide provides descriptions and examples of the criteria used to make an ASD diagnosis and the different severity levels. The accommodations found were categorized into four areas that address common deficits for students with autism: behavior, social-communication, academic, and sensory. The information was gathered and presented in a guide for parents …
English Learners’ Perspectives Of Teaching Methodologies In Community College Eap Classes, Lisa Walker
English Learners’ Perspectives Of Teaching Methodologies In Community College Eap Classes, Lisa Walker
Graduate Education Student Scholarship
Community colleges provide a popular pathway for many English Language Learners (ELLs). Unfortunately, many of them struggle to pass through the multiple levels of non-credit bearing developmental course sequences in order to improve their academic use of English and thrive in post-secondary work. A qualitative look at perspectives of these English Learners on methodology may provide insight to ways that teachers could modify instruction to meet the diverse needs of students within community college English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses. Findings suggest that more explicit teaching about language acquisition and the research-based methodologies that support it along with more consistent …

For Such A Time And Place As This: Christian Higher Education For The Common Good, Cynthia Wells
Higher Education Faculty Scholarship
One might argue that this is not a wise time to raise queries of the common good for Christian higher education. Our in-boxes and newsfeeds provide persistent reminders of the crises facing higher education today, many of which uniquely impact Christian colleges and universities. A crisis of the humanities, as students turn away from areas of study traditionally associated with the liberal arts. A crisis of cost, as independent colleges wrestle with an unsustainable financial model and an increasingly skeptical constituency. An enrollment crisis amid declines in the number of high school graduates, especially in the northeast and midwest. Colleges …

Research on recreational media use among youth indicates young people of color who spend more time with media may also be at higher risk for school disengagement and low personal contentment compared to their white peers. This puts these students in a position to be even more influenced by the themes and messages that abound in pop culture, particularly music and social media. ME: MIM is a multisensory, interdisciplinary, integrated approach to teaching and learning that uses music multimedia to engage students in individual and group activities and lessons that reinforces competencies aligned with positive youth development. Initiation Of Standardized Depression Screening In College Health: A Quality Improvement Project, Kristen Slabaugh, Shannon Harris, Samuel Wilcock

Objective: To implement a quality improvement project for standardized screening and referral of depressive symptoms and identify factors related to mentoring program interest in a college health clinic.
Methods: Demographic survey and Patient Health Questionnaire-2 were distributed to students who met inclusion criteria. Positive screens received further intervention with Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and immediate evaluation, encouragement of follow-up, or educational handout.
Results: Of students …
Implementing Student-Centered Accommodations In Mathematics, Stephanie Grosko
Implementing Student-Centered Accommodations In Mathematics, Stephanie Grosko
Graduate Education Student Scholarship
This project explores the necessary need to create and implement accommodations for low achieving learners and high achieving learners in mathematics, specifically addition and subtraction at the kindergarten level. Currently, there are no accommodations provided in the mathematic curriculum to support these groups of students and ensure they continue to succeed and grow. Research data was collected and analyzed to determine the types of accommodations that are most beneficial to these two groups of learners. Through the research findings, accommodations were discovered and included in the final project to create a student-centered learning environment called the Rainforest Math Cove. The …
