This curriculum guide capstone sought to answer the question of, how can young children reduce their water footprint? In order to achieve this, it was determined that the form of an activity packet focused on water conservation would allow for young children to be introduced to, and habitually practice, water conservation methods. This capstone project was created to increase student knowledge of sexual health topics through engaging parents and children in conversation. While most parents wanted to be the primary source of information on sexual health for their student, they did not engage in effective communication about sexual health topics. The research question addressed in this project was, what factors should parents consider before choosing a single gender classroom for their child? The author researched biological differences of boys and girls as found by Dr. Leonard Sax as well as perceptions and realities of boys and girls who have been exposed to single gender classrooms as seen in work by Rosemary Salomone and Michael Gurian. Qualitative and Quantitative research was conducted and the author discovered that students and teachers unanimously disagree with single gender classrooms for a variety of reasons.

The purpose of this Capstone project is to discover how adult-child conversations affect preschoolers’ oral language development. The project consists of a literature review and the creation of a website. Research shows that oral language development in early childhood is related to social-emotional development and later success in literacy (Cohen, 2005; Lonigan & Shanahan, 2009; NAEYC, 2009; Hartas, D., 2012). Children’s oral language development is influenced by teachers’ emotional, instructional, and organizational support, including, language modeling and feedback, and the closeness of teacher-student relationships. The research question addressed in this project was: How can curriculum be created to increase student conceptual understanding of multiplication? The author investigated how to develop an understanding in multiplication through research on conceptual understanding, the stages of learning multiplication and how to integrate a conceptual understanding into the classroom. The author considered the work of Boaler, Brickwedde, Carpenter and Wright to guide his research. The Understanding by Design model from Wiggins and McTighe was used to create the curriculum.
