Our students consume massive amounts of information online and also compose digitally on various social media and online networking platforms daily. In order to embrace this 21^st century learning environment, I argue that instructors should consider critically integrating small multimodal assignments into their classrooms. I contend that multimodal assignments can extend students’ literacies. That extension can help students evaluate online information and learn multiple ways to communicate, rather than relying only on the traditional written essay.
