The history of school policy intended to segregate the student population in the United States has had a lasting effect on how schools are composed racially and socioeconomically. While the 1954 Brown vs Board of Education decision led to schools being legally integrated, resistance movements, de facto segregation, and school choice among other things have shown how hard true integration is to achieve even now. To this day, many schools all over the country remain highly segregated. Sometimes the best way to learn a new topic isn’t through traditional means but by way of a game. Research has shown that games are especially helpful for learning a new language. Spanish heritage speakers grow up “knowing” Spanish, but do not have full oral or written fluency. The purpose of this project is to create a game that aids Spanish heritage speakers in understanding the rules of accent placement. Heritage speakers grow up in a home where Spanish is spoken, and are bilingual (English/Spanish) with respect to comprehension. The skill level of each heritage speaker varies but a number …

Arts programs, particularly ones that focus on education, are constantly losing their funding. Even as Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States, stated that “Arts education is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. It’s really the air many of these kids breathe[1]”, programs that benefit these kids are seeing their budgets slashed, and classroom educators are unable to get the training that they need to provide fulfilling educational experiences.
