The September 25, 2015 Center for Faculty Enrichment program was a GIFT session (Great Ideas For Teaching) focused on the theme of fostering Signature Work (SW). As defined by the AAC&U, "Signature Work" represents a culminating production by students that reflects each student's personal interests, builds on a student's unique experiences, integrates multiple components of a student's educational journey, and projects toward each student's personal goals. Augustana College was one of eight highly selective higher education institutions invited by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) to participate in the LEAP Challenge. The LEAP Challenge calls on colleges and universities to provide opportunities for all students to produce a meaningful piece of "Signature Work."

The Augustana/Longfellow Number Sense Project (NSP) is a collaborative action research project that was created to provide purposeful, individualized instruction for Longfellow’s kindergarteners and enhance the teacher education program at Augustana. During this program, we work with Kindergarten students on mathematical concepts and skills. Our lessons incorporate both hands-on materials and educational software into our lessons. As we became familiar with this software, we began to suggest ways we could improve the software as well as ideas for new applications designed to help meet needs the students encountered in the classroom. Education is a spoken word poem that explores many aspects of the African American struggle within (self-knowledge). It starts with an African American college student who is disappointed with the lack of courses about her culture. Most curricula in the United States tend to be from a Eurocentric perspective, leaving out a multitude of information about people of color. All groups of people of color have unique experiences, however, African Americans have the most known (or perhaps I should say, unknown) history.
