Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference

While "reading" music usually refers to interpreting the notes and symbols on the page being able to read texts about music can give students context and background they wouldn't otherwise have. This enables them to connect to the music on a deeper and more meaningful level. This project describes just a few of the ways increasing literacy in the field of music enhances the quality of education students receive

Problem
International students are an important part of higher education institutions because they bring in funds, they enhance the diversity, and increase the knowledge being shared (Srivastava et al., 2010; Luo & Jamieson-Drake, 2013; Ongo, 2019; Knight, 2007; Pandit, K., 2007; Baklashova & Kazakov, 2016). Therefore, if retention is not monitored and maintained, the United States could soon lose this important group to other countries with more competitive retention plans (Srivastava, 2010, p. 1561). Andrews University is one school in the U.S. that already shows signs of retention issues among international students, including African international students. There are several challenges …

Our Creator has wired us to be in relations and nurturing teamwork and teambuilding is essential. One way to build cohesion is to have our team complete the Clifton Strengthsfinder survey to identify our top strengths. Once these strengths are identified then we can help people to work more in our strengths.
Our school of nursing and online campus have monthly meetings to make sure we are all on the same page and moving in the same direction. All of the committee members have completed the Clifton Strengthsfinder survey and have shared their top five strengths.
A Theory Of Virtuous Leadership And Its Influence On Organizational Performance In Christian Organizations: A Classic Grounded Theory Study, Simon Lasu, Carlos Ernesto Biaggi
A Theory Of Virtuous Leadership And Its Influence On Organizational Performance In Christian Organizations: A Classic Grounded Theory Study, Simon Lasu, Carlos Ernesto Biaggi
Journal of Applied Christian Leadership
Even though the leadership literature has studied the antecedents and outcomes of virtuous leadership, there is a scarcity of research on the influence of virtuous leadership on organizational performance in Christian organizations. Therefore, this study developed a theory of virtuous leadership and its influence on organizational performance grounded in the perceptions of leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Using classic grounded theory methodology, data was collected by interviewing eight leaders of the Adventist Church from the MENA region. The emergent theory of virtuous leadership revolves around the key role of spirituality (source) …

Problem
The purpose of this study was to discover the preferred and used English vocabulary learning strategies of Saudi Arabic-speaking English as a Second Language (ESL) learners. In the light insufficient empirical and theoretical studies exploring the complex structure of vocabulary learning by Arabic-speaking ESL learners, this study investigated which strategies students viewed as significant in assisting them in learning new English vocabulary. Finally, the study sought to identify Saudi Arabic-speaking student attitudes toward and motivations for learning English as a second language; and whether these attitudes influenced which vocabulary learning strategies they preferred and used commonly.

Moral Character Development Paradigms And Practices For Adventist Educators: Phase 1-Professionals, Duane Covrig, Janet Ledesma, Stanley Patterson
Moral Character Development Paradigms And Practices For Adventist Educators: Phase 1-Professionals, Duane Covrig, Janet Ledesma, Stanley Patterson
Andrews University Teaching and Learning Conference
Moral character development has long been a concern of educators. A recent resurgence of scholarship in neuro-biology and cognitive science has further energized this interest. How can this research and best practices be integrated into faith based high school and college curricular and co-curricular programming? We highlight key trends and resent discoveries and discuss promising practices, starting with professional development programs. We also offer a new paradigm of “moral health and well-being” that promises to involve the head (moral thinking), heart (emotions) and hand (behavior and actions) in this important learning process.

Problem
Synesthesia is a neurological condition characterized by over-abundant neural connectivity between commonly highly specialized areas of the brain. The developmental form of the condition often results in automatic and consistent cross-sensory associations between perceived stimuli and commonly unrelated brain regions. This research contemplates the specific form of music notation-to-color synesthesia and its impact on early stages of music education. Synesthetes with this mode of the condition tend to involuntarily yet consistently associate music-notational concepts with colors, thus rendering their assimilation of these concepts unique and individualized. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of these individualized …

Servant Leadership Development Model For Staff At The University Of The Southern Caribbean, Lloyd Eric Jacott
Servant Leadership Development Model For Staff At The University Of The Southern Caribbean, Lloyd Eric Jacott
Professional Dissertations DMin
Problem
Concerns have been raised by students regarding the unsatisfactory nature of customer service from administrative departments within the University of the Southern Caribbean such as Finance and Admissions. An investigation into this matter, using a focus group design was conducted by Brent Marshall for his Master's Thesis (2013) through the School of Business. However, prior to this an exit report of graduating students was conducted by the Department of quality assurance (2012). The findings of these two investigations provide the basis for implementing the servant leadership development model for staff at the Admissions, Records and Recruitment Departments of the …
