Relationship Of Convergent And Divergent Teaching To Creative Performance, Robert Bruce Kibler

This study investigated the effect on test scores on the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking. Form A, resulting from convergent and divergent methods of teaching fifteen half-hour mini-lessons in social studies to fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. Results favored the Divergent Group, and their scores were more widely dispersed. Recommendations included a follow-up study, replication of the experiment with variations in the sample and treatments, and investigation of the possible utility of a two-score achievement test.

Relatively speaking, few studies have concerned themselves with the problem of frequent testing, and as Keys pointed out, empirical evidence, uncomplicated by differences in the amount of testing material employed, on the effects of frequent testing is, at best, scarce (14:427). Also many studies used tests and test results for direct instruction, thus introducing additional variables. There has been a difference of opinion regarding whether or not timing tests of ability is advantageous or hinders performance. Much experimentation has been done in the area of intelligence testing, but little has been done on actual classroom-type testing. The results of timing intelligence tests have been varied with little agreement among the studies. The purpose of this study was (1) to test the effect of time-threat on the performance of eighty-two sixth grade students taking an arithmetic test, and (2) to investigate the effect of time-threat on students of different arithmetic abilities.

The Intermediate building of the Wapato School District administered the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills twice during the school year. The primary purpose of this testing was to measure the annual growth in skills of each student. The ITBS was used to measure those skills gained between the fall and spring testing. The results of the comparison of the spring and fall testing reflected that students were not gaining a school year's advance on the test results for a school year's instruction. It is the purpose of this study (1) to investigate industrial arts programs in the Greater Seattle area to discover existing conditions and course content, (2) to research selected national curriculum projects for specific course content which each holds important, and 3) to present conditions which can improve industrial arts and assemble course content for selected subjects in industrial arts. A study designed: (1) to determine whether the building level Role Definition produced by the ad hoc Joint Standards Committee was representative of the roles performed by the media personnel, and (2) to determine the role duties of district media personnel. The study showed the Role Definition to be representative and the district level proposal emphasizing administrative and coordinative responsibilities. It was recommended a future study be conducted to further the knowledge of the role/duties of district media personnel.
