Mobile Modeling: Using And Creating Ipad And Ipod Apps To Shape Students With Disabilities, Carolyn Wicks, Amanda J. Rockinson-Szapkiw, Justin M. Tucker

Modeling is a technique that is often used to teach new skills to students with disabilities. Modeling is effective for teaching communication, social, and functional living skills to students with emotional, behavioral, and cognitive disorders (Werts, Caldwell, & Wolery, 1996). Video modeling and audio prompts can be as effective as live modeling (Murzynski & Bourret, 2007; Rehfeldt, Dahman, Young, Cherry, & Davis, 2003). In fact, some researchers have suggested that video modeling results in more rapid acquisition of skills than live modeling and may even be more generalizable across environments (Charlop & Milstein ,1989). Students must be taught how to use the computer and Internet. Language arts now includes viewing and visually representing, but often teachers neglect to instruct on the correct format and use of correspondence and presentation using technology.

Using technology is more than having a computer in the classroom. Having that computer in the classroom won't necessarily improve test scores. Knowing the right technology to use and how to use it in the classroom can implement learning and access wonderful resources that the school could never afford otherwise. Teaching students about the ethical use of materials located on the Internet is the job of every teacher that uses computers and technology in the classroom. The millennial generation has never known life without the computer.
