In order to explore the rich dynamics of using social media as a tool for learning within higher education classrooms, researchers across three disciplines: education, human resource development (HRD), and marketing, joined forces seeking ways to focus on learning through a retrospective analysis. Three concepts—engagement, community building, and personal meaning formed the framework for this study and were utilized to analyze the themes that emerged from student reflections. Institutions offering distance education courses and programs may benefit by encouraging administrators, faculty, staff and students to be more entrepreneurial. Organizational cultures designed to support this type of environment are characterized by entrepreneurial leadership, innovation and change. This article provides information on how distance education institutions can incorporate entrepreneurial leadership and innovation into their organizations. Six questions for administrators of distance education to consider are presented in an effort to provoke discussion and thought on the importance of incorporating entrepreneurial leadership and innovation throughout distance education organizations.

This paper presents a study into the motivations, aspirations and characteristics of students who embarked on a new wholly-online early childhood teacher preparation program introduced at James Cook University in 2007. The inquiry contributes to a number of areas where there is currently little research. Australian studies into the experiences of first-year undergraduates focus on on-campus students, not on students who engage with tertiary studies wholly online, nor do they specifically relate to preservice teacher education. Perceived Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Online Charter School, Lisa Shoaf

A study examined customer satisfaction with an online charter school and compared the performance of this online charter school with a similar school as well as the overall state average. Findings revealed that overall, the constituents involved in the online charter school were satisfied with the school's educational service and, although students at the charter school performed lower than the state average of all schools, they performed better when compared to a similar school as defined by the state board of education.
