"Shiloh": A Mini-Casebook Approach To Upper-Division Literature Courses, Charlie Sweet, Hal Blythe

Shows how the mini-casebook approach, with a few modifications, works well with upper-division writing assignments. Notes that a mini-casebook approach is nothing more than a self-published document including a primary work of literature, selected secondary sources on that work, and a selection of several specified topics on the primary source. An article in the May 2003 issue of The Teaching Professor that highlights six ways teachers can learn from coaches got us thinking. The two of us have now been teaching a combined 64 years in college, and we've spent half that time serving as coaches in soccer, swimming, basketball, and baseball on the youth and high school levels. From our experience we've identified five more ways coaches provide a model for good college instruction.

Staff Perspectives On The Experience Of A Problem-Based Learning Staff Development Module: Impact On Their Pedagogical Stance, Una Coleman

Theses

The current shift towards problem-based learning (PBL) internationally within higher education, and the transfer of some programmes within higher education in Ireland into PBL programmes, suggests that staff development needs to be a key component in any PBL implementation strategy. PBL radically transforms the roles and functions of both staff and student and challenges teachers’ beliefs and accompanying perceptions about the teaching and learning process. This study documents the impact of a PBL staff development programme on the participants and assesses the impact on their pedagogical stance.
