The purpose of this project was to establish a working model for a longitudinal evaluation of the effectiveness of the "Educational and Life Planning" (CNS ED 100) course at Western Kentucky University. This study, entitled "CELPS," was an action project designed to serve as a model for the establishment of a data bank against which future efficacy studies could be made by the faculty. A pilot study of 80 CNS ED 100 students was conducted to test the CELPS model described in this paper and also to provide preliminary information about the effectiveness of the "Educational and Life Planning" course. …

The present paper describes an investigation of the construct validity of the English version of M. Rosenbaum’s Self- Control Schedule (SCS). A total of 121 Brigham Young University students took the SCS and several other measures. t tests were conducted between the Brigham Young University student SCS means and the SCS means of samples from two midwestem universities. Pearson correlations between the SCS, the SCS subscales, Rotter’s I-E scale, the Manifest Anxiety scale, and the Religious Orientation scale were computed. Problem. The problem of this study was to compare attitudes of selected students toward counseling services provided by the Division of Special Services in colleges and universities in the State of Tennessee. Methods. The subjects involved were students enrolled in Special Services for Disadvantaged Students during the fall semester/quarter 1984. Using the Counselor Rating Scales (Short Form), students rated counselors in three areas: first impressions, helpfulness of the counselor, and helpfulness for specific problems. Findings. As adolescent pregnancy becomes more prevalent and funds for social programs diminish, the need to define the parameters of successful educational programs for pregnant teens becomes clear. This dissertation evaluated four programs to determine the effect of centralization of instruction and the length of time a student spent in her program on self-concept, vocational awareness, academic achievement, attendance and return to regularly assigned school.

The researcher administered the Piers-Harris Self-Concept Scale and the Holland Self-Directed Search to 125 female students. Data were also gathered from school records on the remaining variables. Qualitative data were gathered to supplement quantitative data. Interviews …

The purpose of this study was to obtain attitudes of international students toward university counseling services. Specifically, the study was designed to determine whether attitudes of international students toward university counseling services are affected by the variables of continent, number of years in the United States, academic classification, age, sex, immigration status, and previous experience with professional counseling. The population consisted of 4,617 international students, of which 922 were contacted with 465 (50.43%) responding to the questionnaire representing 62 countries. The transescent child is in a state of metamorphosis in body, mind, emotions and value system. Because of these extreme changes, middle level students often experience feelings of inadequacy which result in poor school performance. The enhancement of self esteem through the development of an advisory program handbook is the goal of this project. This handbook will include units which promote student self concept and acceptance and in turn create an environment more conducive to student success and achievement.

Effect Of Sex-Biased And Sex-Fair Item Selections On Interest Inventory Results, Christine Elizabeth Franklin-Panek

The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which sex-biased items on an interest inventory stereotype the occupational interests by gender. Subjects were 194 eighth through twelfth grade students in rural, central Illinois public schools. A representative sample of students were administered a survey to determine which of these selection items depicted activities and occupations most commonly associated with males, females or both genders equally. Next, the interest inventory was revised to include only sex-fair terms.

Significant differences in occupational interests were found between males and females on the pretest using sex-biased selection items, with 73.3% of …

A family-oriented sex education course was developed for parents to take together with their children. The program, which is designed for young people between the ages of 9 and 17, is offered in separate sections for the following groups: mothers and their 9- to 12 year-old daughter, mothers and their 13 to 17-year-old daughters, fathers and their 9 to 12-year-old sons, and fathers and their 13- to 17-year-old sons. The purpose of this study was to examine the specific relationship which exists between selected sociodemographic characteristics and the religiosity of a group of incoming community college students and their sexual attitudes and sexual behaviors.;A sample of 204 community college students completed a survey aimed at assessing their sexual attitudes, sexual behaviors, and religiosity. The instrument was based on a number of previously printed surveys and its reliability was tested with a sample of 23 community college students.;The reliability study demonstrated conclusive evidence that this instrument is highly reliable.
