Crisis Management in higher education is often unpredictable. It requires immediate decision making and quick resolution based on the outcome of an event that has taken place. Technology: How To Stay Out Of Court, Erin Jozwiak, Heather Thomas, Jackie Pillow, George Taylor Ii

Parameters of Law in Student Affairs and Higher Education (CNS 670)

It is hard to believe that over a century ago business professionals, educators, high school and college students were writing letters with a pen and ink, making telephone calls on a land line phone, and physically making home visits to family and friends. In today’s society, texting has replaced phone calls, picture and video messaging has replaced face to face conversation, emails has replaced letter writing and social networking is changing the face of how electronic communication is viewed along and administered.

Electronic communication has led the way in this new millennium of communication and because technology is changing so …

Just like their counterparts in business and industry, it is important that graduate career preparation programmes are subject to an external validation process that can substantiate whether or not they are indeed following applicable standards. In this paper the authors discuss the current status of accreditation for graduate programmes designed to prepare tomorrow’s leaders in the student services profession and argue for the development …

Consultation In The School Psychology Literature: Has The Field Moved Beyond The Three Traditional Models?, Michelle L. Seibert

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Consultation is a crucial role for school psychology practitioners. Psychologists routinely use consultation within the schools and actually wish they could spend more of their work hours on this activity. However, when authors write about consultation in the school psychology literature, they use numerous terms and phrases, which cause confusion as to what models of consultation are prominent in the field. The focus of the current study is to examine the articles that mention consultation in School Psychology Review (Digest) in order to determine whether the three traditional models (behavioral, mental health, and organizational consultation) are still prominent in consultation …

College Debt [Brochure And Video], George Taylor Ii, Adrianne Browning

Counseling Concepts and Applications for Student Affairs Professionals (CNS 577)

Student debt has become largely something that is accepted in our society. The availability of student loans--as well as the ease of obtaining credit for everyday expenses--has actually made college more accessible for more people. However, the rising cost of college has, at the same time, ensured that the debt burden associated with a higher education is also higher. Taking out student loans and wisely using credit cards can help students get through college. It is important to only take out what is needed and to work out a plan for paying the money back as soon as possible.

Suicide: Facts, Figures, And How To Help [Brochure And Video], Ken Akers

Counseling Concepts and Applications for Student Affairs Professionals (CNS 577)

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students, in no small part due to all the life transitions occurring at one time. While many services are in place both on and off of most college campuses to prevent suicide and facilitate students seeking help, there is still a stigma attached to being suicidal and admitting that you need help. Creating awareness about suicide, the reasons people choose it, and the effects it has on others could work to help to remove that stigma and encourage those who are suicidal to take healthy steps.

Parents experience many emotions when sending their students away for college. Many are excited for their child, some are sad, and a majority of these parents are worried. Parents now have to worry for a child that they are no longer in the same town as, whom they can no longer set a curfew and monitor when at home. Though people would like to believe that the university their child has chosen is safe the numbers tell a different story. According to Readers Digest (2008) of this country’s 6,000 colleges and universities there are 40,000 burglaries, 3,700 forcible sex offenses, …
