The Effects Of Chronic Pain Levels On Joint Angle During Jump Landing/Cutting In Individuals With Chronic Ankle Instability, Dallin E. Fjerstad, Hyunwook Lee, Seugnuk Han, Minsub Oh, J. Ty Hopkins

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

About 60% of chronic ankle instability (CAI) individuals report ankle pain persisting for longer than 3 months. They have the risk of recurrent ankle sprains while performing multiplanar tasks such as jumping with landing/cutting. However, little is known about the effects of chronic pain levels on joint kinematics differences and how chronic pain levels contribute to motor outcomes when performing multiplanar motions. PURPOSE: To identify the effects of pain levels on kinematics during jump landing/cutting in CAI individuals. METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional study. Twenty CAI patients with high pain (high pain) (9 males, 11 females; age=22±2year; …

The Effect Of Fatigue On Lower Extremity Joint Kinematics And Performance, Sarah Alloto Apr 2023

The Effect Of Fatigue On Lower Extremity Joint Kinematics And Performance, Sarah Alloto

Undergraduate Distinction Papers

Within recent years there has been an increase in the number of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries within female athletes (Learning how ACL, 2022). The ACL is a ligamentous structure within the knee that connects the femur and the tibia (Mayo, 2022). Its primary function is to provide stability, prevent the tibia from excessive anterior translation, and provide proprioceptive input for the lower limb (Mayo, 2022). ACL injuries are multifactorial in nature, meaning they can be the result of faulty biomechanics, individual genetic predisposition, or environmental factors (Alentorn- Geli et al., 2009). ACL injuries can be classified into two categories: …

Joint Angle Calculations Using Motion Capture And Deep Learning Pose Estimation While Running, Luke Vankeersbilck, Isaac Hedengren, Mcgyver Clark, Iain Hunter

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Marker based motion capture is currently the most accurate method of measuring human kinematics; however, it is expensive and is often limited to lab environments making it unsuitable for many applications. Two-dimensional methods are available through open source code, but it is unclear which of these methods provides the greatest accuracy. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to quantify the accuracy of pose estimation from a monocular electro-optical sensor with deep learning to infer segment end points and pose estimation utilizing two open-source code approaches. METHODS: One subject ran at 6.5 m/s for 15 s while being …

Analysis Of The Kinematic Parameters Of Squatting In Subjects With Different Levels Of Physical Activity – A Preliminary Study, Magdalena Zawadka, Edyta Lukasik, Maria Skublewska Paszkowska, Jakub Smolka, Piotr Gawda, Miroslaw Jablonski

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background:‪Bipedal leg squat is a common rehabilitation exercise. It is used for evaluation of lower limb function and pelvis and core stability. The aim of this study was a comparison of the lower limb, pelvis and spine ranges of motion in subjects with different declared physical activity level during bipedal squat. Material and methods:‪Twenty healthy student-volunteers took part in this investigation. Based on the author’s questionnaire, they were divided into two groups: “higher” and “lower” physical activity level. Participants performed a two-leg squat with maximal depth, and returned to the standing position. The tridimensional motion of the ankle, knee, hip, …

The Influence Of Lower Extremity Coronal Plane Movements On The Passive Regulation Of Instantaneous Loading Mechanics During Running, Jonathan Kenneth Sinclair, Paul John Taylor, Sarah Jane Hobbs Mar 2022

The Influence Of Lower Extremity Coronal Plane Movements On The Passive Regulation Of Instantaneous Loading Mechanics During Running, Jonathan Kenneth Sinclair, Paul John Taylor, Sarah Jane Hobbs

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: The repetitive transmission of impact forces may contribute to the aetiology of overuse injuries. Therefore determining the mechanisms that regulate impact loading has potential clinical significance. This study aimed to determine the influence of lower extremity coronal plane kinematics on the regulation of impact loading during running. Material/Methods: Thirty-six participants ran at 4.0 m.s-1striking the centre of a piezoelectric force platform with their dominant limb. Coronal plane angular kinematics about the hip, knee and ankle joints were measured using an eight-camera motion analysis system operating at 250 Hz. Regression analyses with instantaneous loading rate magnitude as a criterion were …

Kinematics Tactics In Swimming Races On The Example Of The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games And The Rome 2009 World Championships, Patrycja Lipinska Mar 2022

Kinematics Tactics In Swimming Races On The Example Of The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games And The Rome 2009 World Championships, Patrycja Lipinska

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

Background: Tactics in endurance disciplines is often considered by a analysis of distribution of velocity at a distance. Long-distance swimming (800m, 1500m) is a discipline perfectly located in the above definition. Thus the purpose of the paper is to deepen knowledge on sport tactics based on the distribution of velocity by athletes training swimming at the highest level. Material/Methods: The research material comprised finalists of the swimming race on the 800 meters at the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008) and the World Championships in Rome (2009). Data on the average speed for the entire distance and average speed for the …

An Examination Of The Hamstring And The Quadriceps Muscle Kinematics During The Front And Back Squat In Males, Jonathan Sinclair, Darrell Brooks, Stephen Atkins

Baltic Journal of Health and Physical Activity

The aim of the current investigation was to examine the influence of the front and back squat variants on the hamstring and the quadriceps muscles kinematics. Eighteen male participants were recruited with 1 repetition maximum values of 122.7 ±16.4 and 88.7 ±13.9 kg for the back and front squat lifts. Participants completed both back and front squats at 70% of their front squat 1 repetition maximum. The hamstring and the quadriceps muscle kinematics were determined during kinetic situations using motion capture data, in addition to segmental and joint kinematics. Differences between squat conditions were examined using paired samples t-tests. The …

Effect Of Dolphin Kick Timing On Breaststroke Pullout Performance, Taylor L. Adams, Mickey B. Scharbrough, Scott P. Mclean

International Journal of Exercise Science: Conference Proceedings

Breaststroke pullouts are now permitted to include a dolphin kick. Two variations of the pullout are distinguished by the timing of the dolphin kick within the movement. One variation uses an early-initiation of the dolphin kick (performed before the initiation of the arm pull) while a second variation uses a late-initiation of the dolphin kick (performed at the completion of the arm pull). PURPOSE: To compare the performance of two variations of breaststroke pullouts that incorporate a dolphin kick. METHODS: Fourteen collegiate swimmers (18.9 ± 1.17 years, 73.7 ± 8.54 kg, 174.5 ± 9.88 cm) who compete in breaststroke or …
