The presenters will describe the findings of a mixed-methods research study designed to explore students’ perspectives of skills and knowledge gained through engaging with older adults with physical and/or cognitive limitations living in a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). Participants in the study included students enrolled as juniors and seniors in a baccalaureate nursing program. Community partnerships with several CCRCs provided the opportunities for students to interact with elders. During the service-learning course, students developed and implemented evidence-based health promotion activities directed towards enhancing the elders’ cognitive, physical, and psychosocial functioning. Governments must implement the UN CRPD. In practice, government prioritises policies relating to some rights more highly than others. This unequal implementation relates in part to constraints on government, including competing interests, multiple participants and incremental policy change. In the context of these constraints, can differential policy priorities address breaches of other disability rights? This paper tests this question in relation to support for people living in boarding houses in Queensland, focusing particularly on residents with intellectual disability. The purpose of this seminar is to acquaint participants with the ever-changing characteristics, often conflicting issues of causation, and various proposed solutions to the myriad of problems associated with gangs in schools. Special attention is given to the evolving nature of gangs in K-12 educational institutions (e.g., new types of juvenile groups developing and their associated behavior). Traditional subjects such as gang recruitment, initiation, and criminal activity are examined by discussing the many ways they manifest themselves in the school setting. The presentation explored a pilot study examining African American women’s introduction and exposure to S.T.E.M. based fields, how it augmented their career trajectory, and their beliefs on how findings can inform the design and implementation of career development pipeline programs that support the admission, recruitment and retention of African American girls’ pursuit of STEM based careers.

Evaluating primary enrollment figures for rural children particularly girls against sex ration for newborns and NGO reports of lack of birth registrations of girls (hei hukou), produces a net primary enrollment rate (49%) half of the official data (98%). Poverty data and One-Child Policy fines explain the context of the lower enrollment rates.
