ABSTRACT

This paper looks at the challenges Nigerian faced in the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the contributions which indigenous Knowledge (IK) provides in attaining these goals. The paper observes that despite the challenges faced, Nigeria has the potential to attain the SDGs by 2030 provided there is sustainable effort and involvement by all stakeholders. The paper contends that the indigenous knowledge (IK) is a significant resource which could contribute to the increased efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of the development process in Nigeria. When the ability to read does not match with the willingness to do so, students exhibit negative attitude to reading which is expressed by lack of interest in reading known as aliteracy. This study considered SQ3R- a reading technique as a panacea for curbing aliteracy among high school students in Ilesa, Southwest, Nigeria. Pre-test. post-test control group quasi-experimental design was used and the data analyzed using SPSS version 22 with frequency distribution and Paired Sample Test. This study assessed interactive technology competencies required by business education graduates in universities, south-south, Nigeria as perceived by lecturers. One research question and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Descriptive Survey design was chosen for the study. The population comprises 146 lecturers in Universities, South-South Nigeria. There was no sampling since the population was manageable. A 32-item questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The instrument was validated by six experts and Cronbach alpha was used to determine its internal consistency which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.86. Youth unemployment has been on the rise for many years in Nigeria. Despite the high number of youths enrolled in formal education in Nigeria and the number of graduates each year, job opportunities to absorb these graduates are few. TVET has been proposed as an educational intervention in reducing youth unemployment.

A systematic review revealed that the interventions aimed at reducing youth unemployment were pooled into four categories: the use of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in schools, the introduction of entrepreneurship education in schools, the engagement of public-private partnership (PPP), and career guidance counseling for students.

This research examines the experiences of five Nigerian Americans who participated in the Yoruba Group Project Abroad in the year 2018. After taking classes on Yoruba language at the basic, intermediate and advanced levels in their various universities here in the US, the students traveled to Nigeria in the summer of 2018 to immerse themselves in the native speakers’ environment in Ibadan, Nigeria.
