The purpose and research objectives of this study were to determine the perceptions of secondary principals toward the importance of specific skills necessary in performing their roles as school principals, their degree of preparation in the specific skills needed to perform their positional roles, and the helpfulness of certain training practices and courses included in their leadership preparation programs. The sample population consisted of the 191 public secondary school principals in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas who responded to a questionnaire developed by the researcher specifically for this study. The purpose of this study was to answer two research questions: (1) Is there a relationship between high school seniors' levels of hope and their postsecondary educational plans? and (2) Is there a relationship between high school seniors' coping efficacy and their postsecondary educational plans? Three hundred and twenty-five students enrolled in English IV classes from seven high schools in three separate school districts in north central Louisiana completed the three survey instruments. The purpose of the study was to compare mathematics teacher preparation and experience to the achievement of middle school students (grades 6–8) on the mathematics section of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS). Using a theoretical framework, the research examined the extent to which the teacher qualification variables were related to the student achievement. Measures of teacher qualifications included four independent variables: (a) number of mathematics content hours, (b) level of teaching certification, (c) number of years teaching experience, and (d) number of years teaching middle school/junior high mathematics. The project examined key elements of success in large high school conversions to smaller learning community complexes. The review of current research found that the mere act of making schools smaller by size of staff and student population is not enough of a structural change to affect student learning and achievement. Inadequate pe1formance of Washington State's public school students on national exams motivated the state legislature to pass the Basic Education Act in 1993. Graduation requirements were changed and expectations increased to specific skill levels in reading, writing, and several other subjects. The problem is that48% of North Central High School IO'" graders have averaged below standard in reading and 56% have averaged below standard in writing for the last six years. An in-depth questionnaire was sent to the twenty seven second level schools in Kerry. Results were then analysed and compared to similar results obtained by Aidan Mulkeen in his statistical report of the ICT 2002 Survey. An online class on Preparing for College was designed and developed. This class was delivered to three second level schools in Kerry who had shown an interest in taking part. None of the three schools had the ICT facilities required to accommodate such a learning environment. In this study with 9th-12th grade students in an urban Massachusetts school, I consider the question 'How can theater education develop a sense of voice and identity in adolescents?'
