The Flipped Model Classroom Experience For 8th Grade Students Enrolled In Algebra 1: A Case Study, Mary Colclasure

Doctor of Education in Secondary and Middle Grades Education Dissertations

Finding time to teach, assess, and reteach all required standards in an Algebra 1 course made it challenging for me to incorporate student-driven activities designed to engage students in learning mathematics. To address this problem, I changed to a flipped model classroom defined as the switching of the primary place where direct instruction took place from during class to homework. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to reach a deep understanding of my teaching using the flipped model classroom through the lens of student experiences and researcher reflection. This case study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with students, …

The Pedagogical Impact Of Secondary Science Teacher Efficacy On Blended Learning Implementation: A Phenomenological Study, Allison Willemin

CUP Ed.D. Dissertations

As new pedagogical approaches, such as blended learning, are implemented in classrooms, it is important to properly prepare the teachers to ensure fidelity of implementation. The descriptive phenomenological study examined the influence of secondary science teacher efficacy on overcoming obstacles and sustaining the Blended Learning pedagogical approach at a high school in the southern United States. Using purposeful sampling based on specific criteria nine teachers were selected to participate in the study. Through two interviews and a focus group, the researcher collected data based on the participants’ shared experience of implementing the flipped classroom instructional model. The data was themed …

Flipped Classroom: Overcoming Fear Of The Flip, Saundra Shillingstad

Journal of Curriculum, Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Education

When asked to teach an undergraduate Human Growth and Learning (HGL) course with a practicum experience in a four- week summer session I had one question: How could the instructor cover a semester’s worth of content and engage the students in a field practicum experience in four weeks? I asked our College of Education Innovation, Design, Experience, Activities & Synergy (IDEAS) director Wendy the above question. Her immediate response was: “flip your classroom”. This paper will discuss the professor’s experience and satisfaction with the flipped classroom design and the results of students’ evaluation of the HGL flipped course.
