Student collection titled “We Walk By Faith” in which Alix Mattingly undertakes a genealogical exploration of her family’s personal connection to St. Ann Catholic Church and School in Morganfield, Kentucky. Mattingly’s paper examines how religion, segregation, and education intersect in ways that have a lasting effect on understandings of heritage and identity. The collection also contains photographs, a partial transcript, and a copy of the audio interview recording.

Finding aid only for Manuscripts Collection 617. Correspondence, documents, news clippings and ephemera from Seth Thomas Farley, Jr., a life-long educator. This collection includes a good deal of information about Farley’s teaching career prior to his work as a professor at WKU, his involvement in organizations that fought alcoholism and gambling (particularly the lottery in Kentucky), his church work, and his service on a committee to choose a federal magistrate for the western district of Kentucky. The collection includes an entire box of assessment related material related to Fort Knox Dependent Schools in the mid-1960s.

Sweets, Louisville, Kentucky, Secretary, Executive Committee, Ministerial Education and Relief, of the Presbyterian Church in the United States. He urges recipients to convey the “crying need” for ministers to parents, teachers and young men in the church, and offers to send literature to interested parties whose names are forwarded to the Committee.

As a specialty practice, faith community nursing embodies knowledge that is unique to the practice and requires both generic and specialty training. Scarce research has been conducted on the effectiveness of basic faith community nurse curricula. As the landscape of education continues to be refined in the faith community nurse specialty practice, coupled with limited available research for the evaluation of effectiveness, a conceptual model for faith community nurse education is needed. Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 2906. Chiefly letters written by Locke family of Indiana to Sally Barnett of Ohio County, Kentucky. Although they address her as "sister" and "aunt," no relation is apparent. They discuss religious (Methodist) and family matters. Also includes a letter from Samuel Landstreet to H. Stevens and Charlotte Belt in which Landstreet expresses his feelings about emancipation. Finally, an appeasement agreement made between a prominent group of Baptist leaders in 1892, apparently in Louisville.

The lack of success in nonprofit organizations often is due to challenges in management (Drucker, 2008). Faith-based organizations are not immune to these problems. The church struggles to live out its mission, often due to ineffective practices (Barna & Jackson, 2004). Chand (2011) asserted that it is the culture of an organization that builds or erodes its effectiveness. In the context of the church, servant leadership practices are considered to be a contributing factor to organizational effectiveness. Portion of a letter, 25 December 1865, written from Morganfield, Kentucky, by a Presbyterian clergyman to his father. After a two-year lapse in communication, he updates his father on his teaching duties at a male academy and his preaching at two churches. He also mourns social ills such as crime and intemperance, and contrasts the irreligion of the North with the growth of evangelical churches in the South.
