Between 2006 and 2009, the New South Wales Partners in Learning Project was called Connected Learning Schools. This program began in June 2006 with 10 school teams and 120 teachers, in partnership with Department of Education and Training (DET) New South Wales and the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). Connected Learning Schools investigated how children in years 5-9 can shape their education by changing the emphasis from what they learn to how they learn.

This chapter provides a framework to analyze the opportunities to enhance authenticity when assessment is mediated by information technology (IT), as well as the limitations of IT mediation on authenticity. The potential degree of authenticity is determined by several aspects of the competence being assessed: the chronicity of access to and use of information; the durability of the display; the use of written, oral and non-verbal communication; and computer use. The framework is used to identify IT tools that enable more authentic assessment as well as sample approaches and limitations on authenticity.

It is positive that preliminary findings from the 2007 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing suggest that more Australians than in 1997 are seeking help for common mental disorders. However, the 2007 Survey also suggests that two in three Australians who had common forms of mental disorder and 41% of those with serious thoughts of suicide during the last year did not seek or engage in professional help for their condition [1]. The Youth Empowerment Series (YES!) Workshops (Wilson et al, 2000) were developed to improve gatekeepers' mental health literacy and skills for promoting effective help-seeking and social problem-solving among adolescents and young people. The curent study the skills of those attending the YES! Workshops 9 months after training.
