The relationship between teacher ratings of kindergarten students and scores on the Brigance K&1 Screen was examined in order to obtain a measure of construct validity for the Brigance. A Kentucky sample and California sample were included in the study. Data was analyzed separately for each sample for purposes of regional comparison. Teacher’s ratings of students’ overall ability and ability across five skill dimensions (expressive language, receptive language, personal information, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills) were compared via a linear regression analysis. The Project Palatisha Developmental Checklist (PPDC) is a preschool screening instrument that is used by many different tribal Head Start programs throughout the western United States. An item analysis was made on the Cognitive, Fine Motor, and Language subtests of the PPDC. The sample population consisted of 202 children ages 3 through 5 who were enrolled in Head Start programs. The Head Start programs who participated were located on the Hualapai, Hopi, Salt River Pima-Maricopa, Makah, Quileute, Chehalis, and Yakima Indian Reservations. This article records findings and impressions gained from a selfbrlef·ing study of multicultural early childhood settings in British schools~ It begins by providing background information which motivated interest in the work. It presents the issues relevant to early childhood multi· cultural programmes around which questions were asked of ~nd administrators in a wide range of British early childhood settings. Conclusions are then presented, founded on replies to these These conclusions are useful for interpreting attitudes to the issues which are prevalent in Britain and may have a bearing in the Australi!ln early childhood setting.

The purpose of this thesis was to trace the development of The Children's House at Mankato State University from its establishment in 1972 to the close of the 1981-82 school year. This study provided histori­cal data to document the development and progress of the program through a combination of sources including The Children's House files, University records, personal files and recollections of the writer, and personal in­terviews with key persons in the history of the program.
