Family therapists and school counselors are increasingly called upon to provide services for youth in alternative education (Carver, Lewis, & Tice, 2010). Alternative education systems are programs for youth who have been defined as at risk. This study explored the at-risk discourse and asked the questions (a) how do youth and staff define the term at risk, (b) construct their experience in alternative education systems, and (c) experience their relationships with each other.

A precision filing test involving the reduction of a steel cylinder to a perfect cube with the use of a hand file and bench vise was devised as a diagnostic tool for the early detection of freshman students having technic difficulties. The test was administered to 188 freshman dental students in three classes at Loma Linda University, School of Dentistry. Subjective and objective scores were then statistically compared with subsequent technic and clinic grades of the students. During the past few years many physicians, nurses, psychologists, teachers, and physical educators have begun to place more emphasis upon the developmental problems of children. As an outgrowth of this, more attention has been given the child showing mild to moderate motor problems. As a result of these more subtle difficulties going unrecognized and untreated, children may suffer from learning disorders, lack of acceptance by teachers and peers, maladaptive behavior and feelings of low self-esteem (Cratty, 1970; Kiphard, -1970; and Ferinden, 1972).

The purpose of this study was to determine whether selected nurse-patient contacts effected the attendance of non-private patients at Preparation for Childbirth classes. During the data collection period only six of the eight patients who met the criteria for this study were available. Each of the six patients was reached by at least one of the three types of nurse-patient contacts-- a letter of invitation to the Preparation for Childbirth classes, weekly contacts with the patients at the classes and three home visits to each patient. The exploratory survey method was used to determine the extent to whole scientific knowledge, related to principles and practices of healthful living, was enhanced during the secondary school education of students attending four Seventh-day Adventist secondary schools in Hong Kong. The tool, in the form of a health knowledge test designed to fit the cultural patterns of the population, was applied to 358 Form I (grade 7) and Form V (grade 11) students of the specified schools. It was the purpose of this survey to determine what constitutes effective and ineffective clinical instruction from the student's viewpoint, and to make the findings available. The descriptive survey method using the critical incident technique was used as the method of research. A critical incident report form was constructed as a tool for gathering the data. There were 117 students of nursing who submitted 166 incidents; 52 per cent were of effective instruction and 48 per cent of ineffective instruction.

The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether an introduction course in psychiatric nursing for beginning students would increase their awareness of the covert nursing needs of the hospitalized patient.

Literature was reviewed to find out what had been written concerning covert needs, how one could discern them and to determine the need of the patient as an individual.

Using the problem solving method, a tool was prepared to test the ability to identify covert nursing problems. A situational test was developed from experiences of seven hospitalized patients. A pilot study was conducted to perfect the tool.

It was the purpose of this study to investigate reasons for the choice of a first position by graduates from diploma programs in nursing. This included factors motivating the choice, the time of choice, and reasons for liking and disliking clinical areas. Questionnaires were mailed to 756 graduates of the class of 1961 from twenty-three representative schools. Approximately 46 percent were returned completed.

Major findings were as follows:

This study was conducted to find out if Paradise Valley School of Nursing is meeting certain specified objectives and to gather information which could help in future curriculum planning to better meet the needs of the students.

The normative-survey was the method used to gather data from graduates of the 1950-1957 classes. This group comprised those graduating from the three-year diploma program. A questionnaire was mailed to 149 graduates of which 124 responded.

Statement of the Problem: the purpose of this study was to find out the current faculty-student ratio in the medical-surgical area in collegiate school of nursing which were fully accredited by the National League for Nursing and the number of students with which instructors felt comfortable in their clinical instructions.

Method: the descriptive survey method with a questionnaire was used to collect data from the study. Eighty-six instructors returned the questionnaire.

It was the purpose of this study to consider four phases of the nature of the learning experiences of students of nursing in the operating room. The phases of the problem studied were: (1) Are the learning experiences "new" or "an expansion and/or clarification of previous learnings?"
