The number of international graduate students in Japan has been increasing. However, some international students do not acquire the requisite Japanese language skills for studying because of their short stay in Japan before moving to graduate school. In many cases, students face difficulties and have research and language needs. In this study, we clarified the difficulties that students face and the need to improve their Japanese language ability to attend graduate school.
